Weightlifting Ireland The official Facebook of Weightlifting Ireland. The National Governing Body for weightlifting in IRL.

Weightlifting Ireland is the national governing body for weightlifting as recognised by Sport Ireland. The all-Ireland body, as affiliated to the International Weightlifting Federation (I.W.F.), has representation across all 4 provinces and takes applications for membership from all 32 counties. Our members are eligible to compete internationally for Ireland and we have a proud history of inclusivity and the highest standards of competition attendance.

WI Squad Announcement: EMWA European Masters Championships | (2026) 🇮🇪

Weightlifting Ireland is delighted to announce that thirty-seven (37) athletes have been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming EMWA European Masters Championships. The team is made up of seventeen (17) female athletes & twenty (20) male athletes – ages ranging from M70 to W35.

This event will take place in Waregem, Belgium. Competition dates are from June 19th – 27th, 2026.

For the first time ever, the Weightlifting Ireland Community Coach Academy is coming to County Sligo.

This three-day programme offers an opportunity for aspiring and current coaches to develop practical weightlifting coaching skills, learn from experienced coach educators and connect with others who are passionate about growing sport in their communities.

Whether you're involved in weightlifting, strength and conditioning, youth sport or club development, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop locally.

Sport Ireland Institute Webinars: Optimising Recovery & Performance Following Long-Haul Travel

Long-haul travel can significantly impact an athlete’s body and performance. To help our teams and athletes manage travel fatigue and jet lag, the Sport Ireland Institute is hosting two online webinars on Optimising Recovery & Performance Following Long-Haul Travel. These sessions will be led by experts Dr. Toni Rossiter, Dr. Michelle Biggins and Dr. Rónán Doherty.

🏋️‍♀️ Exciting Opportunity Coming to Sligo! 🏋️‍♂️

For the first time ever, the Weightlifting Ireland Community Coach Academy is coming to Sligo from 26th–28th June 2026 at Ursuline College.

This programme is open to both men and women aged 18+ who have experience with Olympic weightlifting movements and an interest in coaching, developing their club or gym, supporting community sport, or creating new opportunities in their local area.

Participants will receive:

✅ Fundamental Coach (Level 1) Qualification
✅ Safeguarding L1 Training
✅ Mentorship and Practical Coaching Experience

🎓 Student Discount Available!
A 50% discount is available for students, reducing the cost from €350 to €175.

Whether you're looking to start your coaching journey, enhance your skills, or help grow weightlifting in your community, this academy offers a fantastic pathway to get involved.
