“What advice would you give to someone starting out in the construction sector?”

As part of the at the CIF Health & Safety Conference in Croke Park, we put this question to James Gorry.

James' advice was straightforward but invaluable:
Know where you are. Understand your environment. Communicate clearly.

For those entering the construction industry, taking the time to understand your surroundings, recognise potential hazards, and communicate directly with colleagues can make a significant difference to both safety and performance on site.

His message reinforces a principle that applies at every level of the industry: communication is key. Asking questions, speaking up, and ensuring everyone is on the same page helps create safer, more productive workplaces.

When it comes to health, many men are excellent at looking after everyone else, but often put their own wellbeing last.

This International Men's Health Week, the message is simple: small changes today can make a big difference tomorrow.

A few practical steps that can improve your health:
- Schedule that health check you've been meaning to book.
- Aim for 30 minutes of movement each day, even a walk counts.
- Take regular breaks from your desk and screen.
- Prioritise quality sleep as seriously as you prioritise work commitments.
- Talk openly about stress, burnout, or mental health challenges.
- Check in with a colleague, friend, or family member, you never know who might need the conversation.

For employers, supporting men's health isn't just the right thing to do, it's good business. Healthier teams are safer, more engaged, more productive, and better equipped to perform at their best.

At Ayrton Group, we're proud to support initiatives that promote healthier workplaces and encourage positive conversations around wellbeing, mental health, and safety.

This week, take one step towards better health. It doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be a start.

What positive change will you make this week?

As part of Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, we're sharing an important video highlighting a simple but powerful message: babies and young children cannot manage their emotions on their own.

From birth, children rely on parents, caregivers, and trusted adults to help them understand, express, and regulate their feelings. These early interactions play a vital role in supporting healthy emotional development and wellbeing.

At Ayrton Group, we recognise the importance of protecting and supporting children at every stage of development. We also offer Paediatric First Aid training, helping parents, caregivers, educators, and organisations develop the skills and confidence to respond to emergencies involving infants and children.

For more information on our Paediatric First Aid training, contact Ayrton Group on (01) 838 5595 or email [email protected].

⚠️ HSA SUMMER INSPECTION CAMPAIGN NOW UNDERWAY ⚠️

Is your team inspection-ready? The Health and Safety Authority has officially launched a nationwide inspection campaign targeting concerts, festivals, and major outdoor events across Ireland.

Inspectors will be actively assessing:
• Working at Height
• Traffic Management
• Electrical Safety
• Contractor Management
• Safe Systems of Work
• Risk Assessments & Site Safety Controls

With event season in full swing, organisers and contractors face increased scrutiny. Failure to demonstrate effective safety management could result in enforcement action, project delays, or worse, workplace injuries.

Behind every successful event is a workforce operating in high-pressure, fast-moving environments where a single oversight can have serious consequences.

At Ayrton Group, we support event organisers, contractors, and employers with training and consultancy services designed to help keep your workforce safe and compliant:

Working at Height Safety Awareness Training:

“Workplace fatalities increased last year. Why is this happening - What are we missing?”

As part of the at the CIF Health & Safety Conference in Croke Park, we put this important question to James Gorry.

Having experienced a life-changing workplace accident himself, James brings a unique perspective to the conversation around safety, leadership, and personal responsibility.

🌍 World Environment Day 2026

The conversation around sustainability has evolved. Today, organisations are expected not only to understand their environmental impact, but to measure it, manage it, and demonstrate meaningful progress.

Environmental, Social and Governance considerations are now firmly embedded within business strategy, influencing investment decisions, stakeholder expectations, risk management, and long-term resilience.

At Ayrton Group, we help organisations develop practical ESG frameworks that deliver measurable outcomes through:
• Carbon Footprint Reporting (Scope 1, 2 & 3)
• Decarbonisation Action Plans
• ESG Materiality Assessments
• Sustainability Reporting
• Stakeholder Engagement
• ESG Workshops & Training

Our approach is designed to help businesses establish clear baselines, identify opportunities, manage risk, and build sustainability into their operations in a way that is both commercially viable and future-focused. As a member of the Inogen Alliance, Ayrton Group combines local expertise with global insight to support organisations navigating an increasingly complex ESG landscape.

This , sustainability should not be viewed as a compliance exercise. It should be recognised as a strategic opportunity to create lasting value for businesses, communities, and the environment.

At the CIF Health & Safety Conference in Croke Park, we explored a question many organisations are currently facing:

“What mistakes are businesses still making in 2026, and does AI have a role in workplace culture?”

As AI continues to transform how organisations operate, the key challenge is ensuring technology strengthens, rather than replaces, human leadership, communication, and engagement.

Watch the full clip below for insights into the evolving relationship between AI, leadership, and workplace culture.

At the recent CIF Health & Safety Conference in Croke Park, under this year’s theme “Beyond Compliance”, we heard from Margaret Kirby on what truly distinguishes compliance from a genuine culture of care.

We asked:
“What is the single biggest difference between a company that is simply compliant and one that truly has a culture of care?”

It is the difference between systems that exist on paper, and behaviours that are embedded in practice.

A timely reminder that while compliance defines the baseline, culture defines performance.

That giant, glowing ball in the sky is not a UFO. It’s the Irish sun. And it means business. ☀️🕶️

When the sun actually splits the stones, our instinct is to drop everything and soak it up. But if your "office" is outdoors, all that extra sunshine brings a serious increase in UV risk.

With skin cancer being the most common cancer in Ireland, we need to treat the sun like any other workplace hazard. Before heading out, make sure you and your crew follow the 5 S’s:
- Slip on sun-protective clothing
- Slop on SPF 30+ (and reapply if you're sweating!)
- Slap on a brimmed hat or neck flap on your hard hat
- Seek shade, especially during peak hours (11am - 3pm)
- Slide on UV-protective sunglasses

Employers: Lead by example, stock up the site sunscreen, and keep the team protected! Let's enjoy the weather responsibly!
