Today is National Slow Down Day - a reminder that speed is more than a number on the dashboard. It can be the difference between having time to react and having no time at all.

The reality on Irish roads remains deeply concerning. 190 people lost their lives on Irish roads in 2025, making it the deadliest year in over a decade.

And in 2026, the warning signs continue. By the end of last month, 105 people had already lost their lives in road traffic collisions, with more than 119,000 speeding detections recorded in the first half of the year alone!

Speed changes everything.
It reduces reaction time.
It increases stopping distance.
And when something goes wrong, it increases the severity of the outcome.

For businesses, road safety is also a workplace safety issue. Whether employees are travelling between sites, operating company vehicles, commuting or working alongside live traffic, the decisions made on the road can have consequences long after the ignition is switched off.

Tomorrow evening, Ireland will get a rare opportunity to witness a partial solar eclipse, with up to 98% of the Sun covered in parts of the country.

It’s an incredible sight, but there’s one safety message everyone should remember: 👀 Protect your eyes.

Regular sunglasses are not safe for viewing an eclipse. Looking directly at the Sun can cause serious and permanent eye damage, even when the Sun appears mostly covered.

Don’t wait until you can see the danger to take safety seriously.
