Meet Peter, who is taking on his first Irish Life Dublin Marathon in support of LA519 🏃‍♂️💙

💬 “Last year, I went through one of the darkest periods of my life and never imagined I’d be signing up for a marathon.”

Earlier this year, Peter turned to running as a way to clear his head. What started as a small step soon became a journey of healing, purpose and resilience.

💬 “I set myself the goal of completing a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. Every run has taught me something and shown me that, even when life gets difficult, there’s always a way forward — one step at a time.”

After recently completing his first half marathon despite carrying a knee injury into race week, Peter is now firmly focused on the road to Dublin.

💬 “The Dublin Marathon means so much more to me than 42.2km. It represents how far I’ve come from where I was last year. My family, friends and children have supported me every step of the way, and standing on that start line will be a celebration of everything I’ve overcome.”

Peter is also fundraising for LA519, using his marathon journey to raise awareness for mental health.

💬 “Having experienced difficult times myself, supporting mental health awareness through this marathon means so much to me.”

📣 The Dublin Marathon Group has extended the 2026 official transfer window, giving more runners who missed out in the ballot a chance to secure a place through the transfer system.

The transfer period has been extended from just over one month in 2025 to more than two months for 2026, offering greater flexibility for participants.

Meet first-time marathon runner Niamh who is taking on the Irish Life Dublin Marathon in support of the Irish Kidney Association 💚🏃‍♀️

💬 “I’m running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon for the Irish Kidney Association in honour of my best friend, who received a life-changing liver transplant when she was just 21 years old.”

This year’s marathon will take place just days after her friend’s transplant anniversary, making every KM even more meaningful.

💬 “I’m running to help raise awareness of organ donation and the incredible impact it has on recipients. It’s so important to have the conversation with your loved ones about organ donation.”

As a Dublin native, there was only one marathon she wanted to run.

💬 “This is my first marathon, and there’s no better place to do it than my hometown. Running through places that mean so much to me, from the Phoenix Park to St Vincent’s Hospital where my friend received her transplant, will make the day incredibly special.”

Training is going well as the KMs continue to build, and race day is getting closer.

💬 “Two years ago, I never would have imagined running a marathon. The fact that I’m doing it for a cause so close to my heart makes the experience even more special.”

Meet Marc Brady, who is taking on the Irish Life Dublin Marathon in support of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABII) 💙🏃‍♂️

💬 “In 2023, I had a stroke that affected my memory, concentration and day-to-day life. I work with a key worker from ABII every week, and I honestly wouldn’t have made this much progress without them. Running the Dublin Marathon is my way of giving back.”

Marc started running in January 2025 to help manage anxiety, panic attacks, depression and improve his heart health after encouragement from his cardiologist.

💬 “I started by running 5km a day. One race led to another, and before I knew it, I’d completed a marathon, an ultra and 12 races in 12 months.”

After raising €1,500 for ABII last year and running an incredible 3:14 marathon, Marc is back on the start line with an even bigger purpose.

💬 “Running has been a game changer for me, both physically and mentally. I hope sharing my story raises awareness that there are amazing support networks like ABII for people living with brain injuries.”

Now on a streak of 556 consecutive days of running at least 5km, Marc continues to inspire others with every step.

💬 “Looking back, my stroke completely changed my life. I found a passion for running that I never thought I’d have, and now I’m proud to be running to give back, raise awareness and help others.”
