‘Women in Sport’ programme is a collaborative project between DIT, Dublin City Council and a number of National Governing Bodies of Sport. Since 2011 DIT working closely with its community partners in sport have identified & recruited students of DIT & women living in the local community to participate in a 12 month, 8 module certified training programme. The programme aims to promote & encourage
the involvement and higher integration of women in sport at all levels whether as a participant in sport and physical activity, a coach or official in sport, or developing women’s active leadership in student sports clubs or local community sports organisations. Havinge gained knowledge, skills and confidence from their participation in quality training and community based sports modules a number of DIT student participants have since become involved as coaches or club committee members in DIT Sports Clubs enhancing and a number of community participants have established a new juvenile athletics club for young children aged 4-10 years in the D7 area. With the support of the DIT Sport & Recreation Service and its partners in sport, participants will continue to enrich local community development and support a culture of participation through the promotion & development of new community participation initiatives.
