How much discovery is too much? 🔴🎾
Red ball player.
Inside-out forehand.
We started with the discovery method.
Fed every ball to the backhand and asked him to find the forehand.
It didn’t quite connect...
So we adjusted.
A little more guidance.
A clearer movement intention.
We temporarily “closed down” the skill.
In one lesson — it clicked.
Discovery is powerful.
But guidance matters too.
It’s not open or closed.
It’s knowing when to move along the pathway:
Closed → Semi-open → Open.
Once they master the skill,
the next progression is a decision-making exercise.
Design the environment.
Read the player.
Adjust the level of freedom.
