LAST DAY TO SIGN UP! I was smiling in this photo because it was over!
After my marathon at the end of 2024, I completely fell out of love with running.
I felt flat, sluggish and honestly just done with it. For the next 10 months, every time I ran, I hated it. I did run, but my body was screaming back to stop.
So after a good rest period of not pushing myself to run (of nearly a year!), I shifted my focus in September 2025.
I focused on my classes, strength training and targeted fitness, short bursts of 30 seconds of cardio mixed into strength work, just three mornings a week. Another key ingredient was consistent, regular walking.
That was it.
Yes, I did a some running - because I finally started to enjoy it.
But the foundation was strength, walking and consistency.
And here’s the result.
On Christmas Day, I ran my fastest 5k parkrun time of the year! I was thrilled!
Not from grinding miles.
Not from overtraining.
But from building a strong, resilient body that could support running again.
That baseline was enough to get me feeling amazing, strong and energised.
I plan to keep going and I fully believe I can get back to my pre marathon times with:
• my strength classes
• walking
• and only a small amount of run training
