6 ways to have gentler days. Tips inspired by ta***ic yogic philosophy, somatics and nervous system regulation techniques 🤍✨
The dangers of chronically remaining in a fight or flight state are widely talked about these days, but for a lot of people it’s not really clear what you’re supposed to do about it. I’m sharing here 6 simple steps that can introduce some gentleness into your body, bring your parasympathetic nervous system to the fore in little ways throughout each day and over time, help to make it easier for you to rest more often in a parasympathetic state.
I recommend always using your own body as your starting point.
1. All 5 of your senses are your gateway to presence. The mouth especially is one of the most sensitive parts of our bodies. Notice the flavours, textures, temperatures and mouthfeel of your foods as you eat them. Savour it. 😙
2. Noticing with intention: When you notice something beautiful in nature, stop for at least 30 seconds (or longer if you can). Be with it. Use your senses. Notice how YOU feel. What’s changed?
3. Journaling. Keep note of 3 things every day that bring you joy. Something you saw, smelled, heard - or something someone did that made you smile
4. Moving with kindness (Kindness is absolutely necessary.) Whatever it looks like for you, aim to move your body for at least 30-60 minutes total a day. Walking, yoga, dancing, cleaning, gardening - the most important part is just to move.
5. Rest. Without shame. Without guilt. Without scrolling on your phone. Rest like it’s the most important thing to do.
6. Practice letting go. In small ways, every day, let go of what you’re gripping to that you don’t need.
