Happy Bloomsday!

As part of the Bloomsday celebrations, we were delighted to welcome The Drumcondra Joycean Jaunt on our Skyline led by tour guide Martin last Friday.

The local Drumcondra group brought the spirit of Joyce to life & along the way, they treated guests to wonderful performances and readings from Ulysses, creating a truly unique and memorable experience above Croke Park.

In September 1888 a group of over 50 hurlers, athletes and GAA officials embarked on a tour of the US to play exhibition matches and raise funds 🇺🇸

Athletic and hurling exhibition matches were held in New York, Boston and Philadelphia. Bad weather, a bitter dispute between the two main athletic bodies in America and a Presidential election all resulted in poorer than expected attendances.

A total of 17 members of the tour party stayed in America permanently. Although a financial failure, the 1888 Invasion Tour awakened interest in Gaelic games among Irish exiles.

The 2026 Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour Series continues with Laois star Brian ‘Beano’ McDonald.

Beano is one of the greatest footballers to ever wear the Laois jersey and won a Leinster senior title with his county in 2003. An outstanding underage player, he starred for Laois at U21 and minor level and won two All-Ireland Minor titles.

The Arles Killeen man was inducted into the Leinster Hall of Fame in 2025. He was one of the top scorers in the 2003 All-Ireland Football Championship and also represented Ireland in the International Rules series that year.

This tour is part of the Bord Gáis Energy Legends Tour Series. These special tours, first introduced in 2008, provide fans with an unforgettable opportunity to hear memories and anecdotes first-hand from their GAA heroes.
