π± Leitrim Pool Association β All Ireland Pool Championships Review π±
What a few days it was for the Leitrim Pool Association at the All Ireland Pool Championships held in the INEC Arena, Killarney. Representing the county with pride, passion and determination, all three Leitrim teams produced outstanding performances on the national stage.
Leitrim A
At this level, every match is tough, but Leitrim A showed fantastic quality throughout the competition. Finishing 3rd in their group after winning 4 of their 6 matches, the lads booked their place in the quarter-finals where they eventually lost out to a strong Tyrone A side.
There were also some brilliant performances in the singles competition from Kevin McWeeney, Colin Crossan and Stephen Deeley, with all three players reaching the Last 32 stage in a highly competitive field.
Leitrim B
Leitrim B had a truly superb championship campaign, reaching the final of their section before narrowly losing out to a very strong Tyrone B team. While the final result didnβt go their way, their incredible semi-final victory against Waterford will be talked about for years to come.
Trailing 10-2 at one stage, Leitrim produced an unbelievable comeback to win 14-13 in dramatic fashion. Joe Maguireβs double in the deciding frame to secure victory can only be described as heroic and will live long in the memory of everyone who witnessed it.
There were excellent singles performances too, with Alex Mickelson reaching the Last 32, John McKenna making the Last 16, and Barry Reynolds going all the way to the quarter-final stage.
Leitrim C
Leitrim C also put in a strong showing, finishing 3rd in their group. Unfortunately, due to the high number of entries in the section, it wasnβt enough to progress further and they eventually lost to Cork in the quarter-final stage.
A special mention goes to Colm Murray, who reached the Last 32 in the singles competition. This was a fantastic achievement for Colm in his very first year competing at the All Irelands.
Over 50s
In the Over 50s section, Neil Brady also represented Leitrim brilliantly by reaching the Last 32 stage.
Thank You
The Leitrim Pool Association would like to thank all players for the incredible commitment and dedication shown in representing Leitrim at such a high level.
A huge thank you also goes to all the supporters who followed the teams throughout the championships and sent messages of support over the days. One supporter in particular, Richard Shanley, even jumped into the car once he heard Leitrim B had reached the final! We hope to see you back wearing the jersey soon Richard. ππ
Special thanks must also go to chairman John Casey and the Leitrim Pool Association committee for all the hard work they put in throughout the year organising events and ensuring everything ran smoothly for the teams travelling to the All Irelands.
Leitrim Pool will be back stronger, hungrier and fighting hard again next year.
And the action doesnβt stop here π±
There are still more events coming up in the near future, so keep an eye on the Leitrim Pool Association page for some exciting news to come!
