The Leinster Age Group (12-14) Championships took place in UL Arena last weekend and was another successful trip for our 19 DSC swimmers in action over the five sessions, and who came home with 14 Golds, 8 silver, 3 Bronze from 139 swims plus 2 relay golds and to cap that off, Jessica Sweeney was awarded Leinster Swimmer of the Meet for the third year in a row.

There were so many top class performances, these are just some of the highlights:

Adam Kozak with a brilliant last 10m surge took Gold in the 100m Breaststroke

Jessica Sweeney winning 6 Golds with the 100m Freestyle a standout performance

Sophia Winterbach won 5 Golds including an brilliant win in the 200m Breaststroke in what was one of the races on the championships

Victor Virlan won Gold in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly showing he is one of the top up and coming sprinters in the region

Szymon Kowalski had the toughest program of all taking in the 800m and 1500m Freestyle but came away with three golds the best of which was his swim in the 200m Freestyle final in another epic battle to the wall.

Lili Patchell won bronze in the 200m Breaststroke with a big PB and in a qualifying time for the next season's Regional Development Squad

The Boys relay team of Stan Penk, Adam Kozak, Szymon Kowlaski and Victor Virlan had big wins in the 4 x 100m Free and Medley events.

Our youngest swimmers also step up a level. Frankie Sweeney qualified for five finals and was rewarded with Summer National times in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke. Cate Farrelly qualified for two finals and is very close to the national standard in the 100m Butterfly.

We had many swimmers have their first taste of the championship racing and gained valuable experience and PBs - Colin Dzuibon, Ellie Brady, Emily Drew, Felix Ralea, Fionn Molloy, Gabi Jakimaviciute, Liliana Kowaluk, Maia Tang and Michael Dunne.

Thanks once again to coach Paula and TMs Marcin and Vanessa who looked after the swimmers so well during the long days competition.

Well done to Dawid!

Irish Minor Schools 2026

The top swimmers in the country ages 10 to 12 gathered in the NAC last weekend for the Irish Minor Schools Championships and it was another successful day out for DSC athletes who returned with 5 National medals and lots of new best performances.

Top of the pile were Max Cojocaru (St Pauls's NS) and Filip Penk (Bracken NS) in the age 9 category. Max went into the 50m Breaststroke as number 1 seed and justified that tag with the fastest time in the heats and followed that with gold in a dominant swim in the final with a new PB of 44.05. Max then picked up a surprise bronze in the 50m Backstroke - also in a new best time.

Filip matched Max's haul with Gold in the 50m Freestyle (38.18) improving his best by nearly three seconds and moving up from fifth seed to the number 1 spot. He then went into the 50m Butterfly final winning bronze in another big PB of 45.58.

The morning session also saw action for Doireann Smith (Gaelscoil an Bhradรกin Feasa) who smashed her best times in the 50m Free and 50m Back, Niamh Taaffe (St Patrick's NS) with a new mark in the 50m Back and Anna Drew (Scoil Aonghusa) who made her first national final in the 50m Breaststroke and swam very well taking 1.5 seconds off her entry time.

The afternoon session saw the ages 11 and 12 heats and finals. Maia Tang (Presentation PS) earned a National Bronze in the 50m Backstroke showing excellent technique in both the heat (35.02) and final (35.41).

Felix Ralea (Rรฉalt na Mara) was one of the top performers in the 50m Backstroke qualifying for the final, despite suffering a slip at the start, where he placed 5th overall. In the 50m Freestyle, Felix also made the final and swam a great time of 29.30 just missing a medal, finishing in the dreaded 4th position. James Byrne (Le Chelie ETNS) also stepped up qualifying for the final and setting a new mark (33.52)

Leo Raskazov (Mell NS - 48.01), Aaron Clarke (Whitecross NS - 42.86) and James Byrne (42.91) all swam PBs in the 50m Butterfly with the fastest fly coming from Cate Farrelly (St Mary's PPS - 38.38). Aaron also swam a good PB of 41.12 in the 50m Backstroke.

Maia and Cate were 2 of 230 girls taking part in the 100m IM and each had excellent swims with Maia placing 4th overall in a new PB (1.15.85) while Cate as 26th with a 4 second improvement (1.26.22).

Frankie Sweeney (Scoil Aonghusa) made a good return to competition with strong swims in the 50m Free and 50m Breast while Artemijs Budrevics (St Pauls NS) made his debut at National level with a sub 35 second clocking in the 50m Free.
