Post holiday blues and thoughts ⬇️

I’ve been home less than a day and my mind has gone to the races.
Where am I at? is it where I want to be? Am I doing everything I need to get to where I want to be?

And the answer is no.

Don’t get me wrong I’m proud of myself and what I’m doing, but always feel like I’m leaving something at the table in regards to being that little bit better.

Where do I go from here?

I can analyse where I’m at and implement Change in order to see the results I know I’m capable of.

I’ve always felt like I’ve been a bit of an overachiever, but I’m learning to sit back trust and enjoy the process rather than becoming consumed by it.

It’s kind of like a “hitting the wall phase”
Ultimately, hitting a wall in both general life and training is a part of the journey. It’s not a sign of failure but rather an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
By embracing the challenge, staying focused on your goals, and pushing through despite setbacks, you’ll emerge stronger and more resilient on the other side.

What are my goals for 2024?

Long story short the same as they have been every year.

Be better than last year.

Consistently consistent beats occasionally great

23 was a rollercoaster and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

10 new countries visited 🌎
12 new states visited 🇺🇸
Flew half way across the world to run a marathon
Ran that in sub 3 hours
Built a foundation for triathlon training
Got into the shape of my life
Focused on myself
Ran a 5 min mile
Ran an ultramarathon 50km
Went on 266 runs
300+ gym sessions
Took a week off once (only lasted 4 days got bored) 🤣
Started a new sport 🥊

All accomplishments aside, this year was a great opportunity for me to grow, I expanded my network with people all over the world and learnt the importance of resilience, when s**t gets tough you have to be tougher.
Bring on this year, go get it 🥷

Obviously coming up Christmas we all understand money can be tight but if you could spare anything and donate to these very worth causes it would be really appreciated.

After a week off all training a nice little reset, I’ve been thinking, what is next?
Originally I wanted to dive into triathlon training but i feel like I might be leaving something at the table in regards to running.

🏃 Reflecting on my marathon journey one month post-race, the desire to relive the exhilarating finish line moment is intense!

Last time, I set an audacious goal of a sub 3-hour marathon on my first attempt, not underestimating the distance but it was important for me to have a challenging target which would push me to grow more than just aiming to finish would have. My belief in my capabilities, acknowledging the only real limitation is in my head, fueled my daily commitment to achieving that ambitious goal.

At the start of this prep with no half marathon under 1hr 37m, I was challenging myself to run two under 1:30 back-to-back. The journey was tough, but the commitment to sub 3 hours persisted daily, shaping a transformative experience.

Post-St. George, evaluating the race day details – flawless ex*****on, managing nerves, and meticulous preparation – revealed the impact of every aspect, from hydration to sleep & showed me the importance of nailing the controllable.

Now, armed with this knowledge and after a lot of time reflecting, I'm setting a new, almost unrealistic goal for my next endeavor, a sub 2:50 in Boston next year.

Despite having less than a year of dedicated running programming, I believe in my capabilities and commit to putting in the hard work. With 160 days until the Boston Marathon, the countdown begins! ☑️

What a few days it’s been! 🏃
Huge shoutout to everyone for your support after completing the marathon. I’m genuinely humbled by the whole experience and can’t thank everyone enough for the endless support.
I still can’t even explain the emotions I’m feeling after the run, I’ve been on cloud 9 for days and it still doesn’t seem real.

Every second of that race was an exhilarating blend of challenge and triumph but everything just seemed to flow perfectly on the day, the cheers from all the runners created a sense of joy and encouragement to not let the foot off the pedal.

Each step was a testament to determination, and I reveled in the pure enjoyment of pushing my absolute limits.

The finish line marked not just the end of a race but a celebration of every hard second of training over the better part of 8 months, it took sacrifice, commitment and a lot of grit to get over that line under my goal time and I wouldn’t change a minute of it.

Go out set yourself a goal be intentional and don’t fu***ng stop until you’ve smashed it.

Sub 3 hour and a Boston qualifier in my first marathon I’ll take that 😜

Humbled & Grateful Onto the next one 👊

Running has never been my forte, but in just two weeks, I'm taking on an audacious challenge – qualifying for the Boston Marathon! 🏃‍♂️🌆

The road was tough, but I’ve had a burning determination within me to achieve that goal.

On October 7th this incredible journey becomes a reality, and all the work that has been put in can be put to the test, the moment of truth will be revealed when I cross that line, Will I get it? Will I miss it?

What I’ve learnt on this running journey is you can’t take anything for granted, it’s the most humbling sport you can partake in and it’s only you vs you, the mental battle, the physical battle, it’s all you and how you deal with that is a result from the actions you choose to make.

If I miss my goal, it’s my fault, if I get it, it’s a result of all the work I’ve put in. That’s it, there’s no excuses for what could’ve been, the same applies to starting your fitness journey, if you don’t try you don’t get!

Hold yourself accountable and understand if you don’t achieve said goals it’s your fault don’t pawn excuses for why you didn’t do what you said you were going to do!

In order to be successful you need to endure some sort of pain.

Suffering is an integral and essential part of any real pursuit of success whether your looking to drop a few pounds or run a marathon, it requires them early morning starts and enduring the process right through to your final destination.

It doesn’t have to be physical pain, most of the time when it comes to fitness it’s actually mental strength that gets us through.

Eating less might be tough for you but if you really want it you’ll do it.

If you want to finish a marathon it requires going for them runs, yes if you enjoy running it can be easier as your enjoying the process but some days you just don’t want to do it.

Long story short, the next time you say “I want that” or “ I’d like to do that” take some sort of action in pursuit of achieving said thing.👀 with the clicks📸

The ability to maintain an open mind and learn from everything and everyone is a game changer.

Learning from everyone and everything around me is something I find increasingly valuable. The truth is we can learn from just about every experience on a day-to-day basis.

Not all the knowledge we need to live a better life comes from books and classrooms. Every success or failure (in life or career) is an opportunity to learn something new.

The smartest people in almost every industry do not just learn by reason or experience, They also learn from daily encounters with others.

So if you have the opportunity to learn something new or different, take the advice from the people around you, take action and listen to the people who have the experience.

Majority of the time the people trying to help/teach you want you to succeed, they are showing you tips/tricks they incorporated while also outlining the mistakes they made so you don’t follow in their footsteps.

It’s a win win, you learn what to do and what not 💁🏻‍♂️

(18:35) 5km 🏅

After a long few weeks of training I finally decided to enter a little race just out of curiosity to see how I’m progressing.

I didn’t feel that I was at the fitness level that I was at towards the end of last year but completely surprised myself with a 28 second PB.

I entered this race on a last minute decision and may have missed a long run in the process (oops), but I have absolutely no regrets.

Started really strong and was surprised at the pace I was holding early on and the fact it wasn’t getting any harder.

Not all races go this way and there are always tough aspects to face. I found that out with 1km to go, I was on track for a sub 19 and it was starting to get hard real hard.

To me to keep going is hard, but slowing down is harder you just have to choose your hard and battle through which thankfully I did.

If your looking for any guidance with your training whether it’s weight loss, powerlifting, body building, running or a hybrid style of training send me a message and we can talk about your goals.

Let's talk about setting goals.
Setting goals is something that many people recommend.

Goals can be big or small, daily, weekly, or yearly, and they can be small daily tasks or something you can't even imagine accomplishing in your lifetime.

I like the idea of setting seemingly impossible goals, committing to them, and making the process of achieving them an addiction.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm all for setting small goals when you first begin your fitness journey, but give yourself a challenge and laugh at yourself for doubting yourself when you reach it.

Consider it this way.
Your goal is to become addicted.
Feed the addiction with consistency, and you are almost certain to achieve said goals.
