Seniors: Our Seniors continued their winning streak in the Championship with a comfortable 2-7 to 2-27 win over an understrength Aughnamullen on Saturday afternoon. Top Scorer Aaron Courtney was having a day to remember in front of the goals scoring a remarkable 1-08 in the first half to effectively kill off the game, further scores from Stephen Finnegan, Conor Burns, Niall Keenan, Liam McDonald and Davy Garland saw Donaghmoyne lead by 15 points at half time.
The second half proceeded towards its inevitable conclusion with both sides making full use of the substitutes bench and Donaghmoyne extending their lead to twenty points with Aaron Courtney adding another couple to his personal tally. Donaghmoyne will now face Clones on Sunday week to determine who will top the group.
Minors: The Minors were forced to dig deep on Saturday morning to seal a 2-14 to 1-13 win over neighbours Carrickmacross. The sides were level at halftime 1-4 to 0-7 with the Donaghmoyne scores coming from Ross Lennon, Joe Callan and Caoilte Kelly while James Ennis hit 1-1.
Carrick moved into a two-point lead at the start of the second half before Donaghmoyne hit a purple patch registering 8 points without reply courtesy of three 2 point scores from James Ennis, Sean Meegan and Ross Lennon along with a single and a 45 from Ennis. Carrickmacross hit back scoring 1-1 to close to within 2 points with 8 minutes remaining. The final stages were frantic with both teams pushing forward scores from Peter Gilmartin and Noah Hughes keeping Donaghmoynes noses in front, the match winning score came from a Caoilte Kelly penalty in the 59th minute to extend the lead to six with time almost up. Carrick hit the final scores of the game but were unable to get back on terms before the final whistle sounded. Well done to both teams on serving up such an exciting match.
Pearse Duffy Memorial Seat Unveiling Ceremony:
On Friday evening, we were deeply honoured to welcome the family and friends of the late Pearse Duffy to the clubrooms for the unveiling of a memorial bench dedicated in his honour.
Pearse was a true Gael and a lifelong Fontenoy. It is only fitting that there is now a permanent reminder of his unwavering dedication to his beloved Donaghmoyne at our new clubrooms—a place he would have taken immense pride in.
Positioned right at the players' entrance, the bench looks out over the pitch from Pearse’s favourite vantage point. As his grandson Barry shared on the night, Pearse always made his way to the dressing rooms after a match to congratulate or commiserate with the team.
Now, he will always be there to watch over the Fontenoys as they take the field.
