As I coach at a golf club along the east coast of Ireland, a lot of my students want to hit a low ball because of the wind.

In this video I want to try demonstrate why loft and therefore height are your friend.

The water pressure represents club/ball speed and the tilting of my hand represents the loft on the club face.

The water pressure (club/ball speed) is a constant, doesn’t change. The tilting of my hand changes to mimic adding loft.

As my hand tilts upwards (adding loft), the water is projected further. This is true up to a certain point depending on the water pressure (club/ball speed).

So the next time you’re changing your clubs and think an 8° stiff shafted driver will suit your 80mph swing, think again and ask a qualified custom fitter to fit you into the correct clubs for you.
