Could your club be the next home of the Irish Sailing Southern Firefly Fleet? 👀

After two very successful years supporting schools, colleges, adult sailors and national team racing events in Baltimore & Glandore, this fleet is getting ready to move on to a new home…

We’re looking for a club or training centre in the South of Ireland that’s ready to put these boats to good use. If you’ve got the enthusiasm, the facilities, and a plan to make the most of this fantastic fleet, we want to hear from you 🫵🏼

Expressions of interest can be sent to [email protected] before midday on 30 June 2026

World ILCA Class President Mark Lyttle has won the ILCA 7 Grand Masters World Championship in Athens, Greece 🔥

Lyttle previously won the ILCA 7 Grand Masters World Championship on home waters in Dún Laoghaire in 2018, taking the crown now for the second time, and once again demonstrating the experience, composure and consistency that makes him one of Ireland’s most respected sailors.

Another fantastic Women at the Helm Regatta 🔥

More than 60 female sailors took to the water across a range of classes for a weekend of racing, learning and plenty of camaraderie at the National Yacht Club.

Congratulations to Sarah Cooney and the crew of Joyride on winning the overall Woman at the Helm Trophy, and to all the sailors, organisers and volunteers who continue to make this event such a success!

Robert Dickson in an ILCA? It must be Medal Race Day🔥

Medal Race Day is where Irish Sailing athletes and coaches come together to practice the Medal Race format, which is the final racing series part of any Senior European or international level regatta worldwide, which of course decides on who wins a medal.

Finn Lynch and Ewan McMahon from the Senior ILCA 7 Team took Gold and Silver respectively, while Conor Cronin from the Development Squad took home Bronze.

Irish sailor Tom Dolan had an unexpected finish to his third leg of the Solitaire du Figaro last night.

While leading the fleet, Tom’s boat ran aground on the Chaussée de Sein. After 5 hours of trying to get free, Tom was airlifted to safety by the French Navy.

Safety is always the number one priority at sea, and we are proud of Tom’s decision to prioritise his safety over a place on a podium.

This event is an example of how even the most experienced skippers can encounter trouble at sea, and how important it is to always ask for help. Well done to Tom Dolan on his efforts and wise decision making last night.

🚨 Tom Dolan Forced to Retire

While sailing at the front of the fleet alongside Loïs Berrehar (Banque Populaire), Tom Dolan (Kingspan) ran aground at 00:16 on the Chaussée de Sein, just a short distance from Beg ar C’hale on the Île de Sein.

The skipper initially tried to free his boat on his own, but was unsuccessful as the tide was falling. Assisted by the Île de Sein lifeboat crew (SNSM), Tom deployed both of his anchors in an attempt to stabilize the boat and manoeuvre her free on the rising tide. Unfortunately, he was unable to escape the situation.

After five hours of effort, at 5:40 a.m. this morning, the Irish skipper was airlifted by a French Navy helicopter as conditions had become dangerous for both him and his boat.

The skipper is safe and will be brought ashore.

Sadly, the Irish sailor’s race ends here, and his hopes of securing a second victory come to an end in Brittany.

More information to follow.
