Tri Coach James

Tri Coach James I have tried and tested my theories and I have used them extensively in my own training.

My approach to coaching uses both a practical and scientific perspective to deliver a modern, effective approach to training and preparing for whatever the challenge is. By measuring how we train (using data such as Power and Heart Rate) we can be smart about how we train and maximise the potential to make progress in performances

The goal is to support athletes to be effective with their traini

ng and see genuine progress. Having worked with athletes from beginner to elite in a range of sports, the most effective plan is one which puts the individual first. Factoring in ability, availability and lifestyle are key in delivering a successful programme. I spend a lot of time making sure the balance of training and life outside the sport is optimal for achieving success and meeting your goals. I am an experienced Triathlete who races at the top of the Age Group field and have been on the podium across all distances from Sprint to Ironman events:

· Raced at the Ironman World Championships in Kona (Ironman PB 8:46)

· Qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships on multiple occasions (Half Ironman PB 4:12)

· Triathlon Ireland National Series Champion including multiple wins in Olympic, Sprint and Half Ironman races.

· Represented Ireland at the European Triathlon Championships. Whether you are training for your first Triathlon, or are looking to get on the podium in your Age Group in an Ironman, we tailor YOUR training to suit YOUR individual needs and goals.

I have been racing the Lost Sheep triathlon for many years and it has always been an ambition to get on the podium.

Delighted to have finished 3rd last weekend on what was a biblical day on the bike.

I had Aishling’s words of advice ringing in my ears for the whole day- ‘Go hard or thumb a lift home’ 🤣🤣🤣

I couldn’t be prouder of my amazing wife who secured two national medals last weekend in the National Time Trial and National Road Race.

She has put in an incredible amount of hard work all year- early morning gym sessions, turbos in the dead of winter, long spins in the Wicklow hills 💪💪

It was great to share the weekend with and all his crew.

Well done Aishling- super proud of you 🥰🙇‍♂️

70.3 National Champs in Tyrone 🏊🚴🏻‍♂️🏃‍♂️

5th overall; 4th in the National Champs.
, 1st in AG and a big PB of 9mins ( another 50 seconds and I would have broken 4 hrs 🙈🫣😢)

Absolutely delighted with my race yesterday and feel like I am starting to come back into decent shape.

Swim was average and I felt like I came out of the water 10 minutes down but was only 2/3 minutes down on the main leaders.

Bike- worked very hard on the bike as the lead men were powering ahead. Power and heart rate were strong and was happy with how I performed. Bike time was 2:10 and just under 41k per hour 👊

Run- I came off the bike in 7th and settled into a good rhythm. For the first lap I thought it would be a matter of holding my position but as the race progressed, I started to reel in the runners ahead and managed to move up to 5th. Very happy with run time of 1:19 (avg 3:44 pace).

The half national champs always attracts the best of the best and to be still mixing it at the top end is a dream.

Very lucky to have amazing support at home with 🥰😍

Great to see so many strong performances from - the club keeps going from strength to strength

Well done to and all for a superb race.

Training Zones 🎯

Training zones are simply a way to think about the different intensity zones that help your body most efficiently adapt to your training goals.

They help structure your training throughout the season to meet your goals.

By understanding and mastering your training zones, you know exactly how hard to push and when to hold back. From recovery rides to threshold sessions, each zone has a purpose.

The 6min run test which can be used to estimate an athletes VO2 Max was very informative and I will utilise it with my athletes going forward

Weekend Round Up ! 🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

A busy weekend on the road running front.

Shelley completed the half marathon in Malta and ran very well in her first race back after a well deserved break from the 70.3 worlds

Dylan ran the Wicklow Gaol Break half marathon as he continues his build for Cork Marathon

Danny ran the Mallow 10mile road race and ran a PB time even with a full week of training in his legs 👏👏

Richie ran the Dunboyne 10k and narrowly missed out on sub 40 as he continues his build for the Venice 70.3 in 5 weeks time.

The consitency of all athletes is very impressive and they are improving week on week.

👏👏👏.
