Kildare Cycling Club

Kildare Cycling Club Kildare Cycling Club In 2013 club members returned to the racing scene while the leisure side of the club grew, slowly at first but more quickly later.

Kildare Town and its environs has a long and proud history in the sport of cycling with some of the strongest and most famous Irish riders of the 20th century coming from the area, the Flanagan brothers probably the most successful and well known, however the club in the area lapsed in the 1990s - 2000s period. In 2011 to facilitate the organisation of a charity cycle in aid of Headstrong, the yout

h mental health charity a club, Headstrong Cycling Club, was again established in Kildare Town, the charity cycle was a great success and in the spring of 2012 some riders who had been involved in it decided to keep the club going with cycles from the Square each weekend. In 2014 Headstrong joined the local inter club racing league and hosted it's first competitive event, we also ran two very successful sportives in aid of local charities. In late 2015 a new committee was elected and reviewed the workings of the club, leading to the name change from Headstrong Cycling Club to Kildare Cycling Club.

Had an incredible day at the Fort2Fort sportive, raising funds for Cork ARC Cancer Support House , & got dream weather for spin😎
Not only has it spectacular routes that go from Camden Fort in Crosshaven to Charles Fort in Kinsale (& further on to Ballinspittle along Wild Atlantic @) but the Fort2Fort was run like clockwork, by the loveliest people, all in aid of a great cause.

Thanks to everyone involved from several local Lions Clubs for the superb & friendly organisation. Special shout-out to Hilda for the amazing cakes at all food stops and the gang from Carrigdhoun Cycling Club for their encouragement.
The 🍌 bread, like the scenery & weather, was just epic😘
We’ll be back! 👊đŸ’Ș👏

Congrats to club members Maria O’Reilly and Eamonn Quirke on logging their latest Olympic distance triathlon at TriAthy 2026.

The 18th edition of TriAthy attracted 2,162 finishers and is some organisational feat. The Olympic distance had the most entries (724), with Sprint next biggest (623) and the TA-100 attracted 485. The event’s ‘taster’ (Try-a-tri) featured 330 first-timers.
Well done Maria and Eamonn for clocking up another ‘Olympic’ (1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run) in preparation for your next Ironman. Sure that distance is only a warm-up for ye! đŸ’ȘđŸ’Ș

Well done to TriAthy too for continuing this legendary event which brings so much achievement and joy to many and so much business & goodwill to Co Kildare.

Community activism, especially through sport, is a powerful force for good.đŸ’Ș

Sorry now but
..who organised this club trip to Ibiza & didn’t tell the rest of us?😝

Oh, it’s actually our B group on their sun-soaked 93km spin across Kildare & Laois on Sunday.
Hope everyone else in Kildare Cycling Club gets to soak in some rays on the roads in the coming days, including the official club mid-week spin on Wednesday.

We know cycling’s a religion for some of ye but there’s no need to only practise on a Sunday😛

PS: Don’t forget the Factor 50! It’s fruppin’ scorchio!!!đŸ„”

Woohoo 🎉 Time to cast off those insulating layers & get the shorts ‘n guns out everyone as the🌞’s coming🙀 & it’s gonna last well into next week😎
Should be a fab weekend for the club’s regular Sunday spins and also to catch a glimpse of the legendary Rás Tailteann Cycle Race as it hits our neighbouring counties tomorrow (Sat) and travels through Kildare on Sunday.
The RĂĄs couldn’t happen without generous volunteers from so many clubs like our own👏đŸ’Ș

Our friends in Naas CC are holding their annual TT over one of the fastest 10 mile courses in the county, there are grades for all categories of riders so well worth a go if your legs are feeling strong.

Incoming!
It’s Rás Tailteann week and so great to see Ireland’s legendary stage race coming through Kildare again on its final stage this Sunday.
Our club is proud to have helped marshall this historic event in recent years and, no doubt, will have members out on the roads again this weekend to cheer on the riders before the final sprint finish in Dunboyne.

First run in 1953, the ‘Rás’ remains the highlight of many an Irish cyclist’s career & long may it continue.
Best of luck to everyone racing & thanks to all the organisers & many, many volunteers who help make it happen.

Attached is the official route for Sunday’s fifth stage, with a detailed timed estimate of where to see it fly by in Kikdare

Yes! Another successful night of hosting Kildare Cycling Club’s round of the Kildare / Carlow area Inter-Club League .
A big gang of club members volunteered to organise & marshall it.
Some even went to the trouble of brushing clean any dodgy-looking corners/junctions beforehand!
Great feedback from participants who said they felt particularly safe on our Kildangan circuit. Hope all riders enjoyed a great night’s racing.
Next round of the competition is in Athy on May 28.

Big 👊 to KCC’s race chief John O’Loughlin and to all club members who gave up their time so generously.
Job well done everyoneđŸ’Ș👏

Stunning morning!
Great to see a big gang from our B group out soaking in the rays on their latest Sunday Spin.
The C group were out too and no one mentioned the chilly wind once, we promise!😛

All those Winter miles are now starting to pay us back in Summer smiles.

Mahoosive congrats to our two club members who went even further than the Cliffs of Moher Cycle Challenge
.all the way to đŸ‡Ș🇾 to take part in the legendary Mallorca 312 OK Mobility sportive.
It has three routes 167/225/312km on closed roads & is one of the most scenic sportives in Europe, now attracting 8,500 entrants annually.
Even the shortest route climbs over 2,500 metres in the spectacular Tramuntana Mts. The 225 covers over 4,000 metres of climbing and the biggest beast -the full 312km - has over 5000m of elevation gain!đŸ€ŻđŸ„”
John Murray is a regular participant but it was a first M312 for Mark Whitney who went the whole hog & completed the full 312kmđŸ˜±
He was in the saddle for over half a day, started in the dark (classic black plastic bag insulation there Mark👌) yet finished with a beaming smile.
Mark swears it was his ‘first and only!’ M312 😆 but that grin says otherwise.
Most of us go to Mallorca to lie on a beach with an ice-cold cerveza. Not these two mighty men
though we hope that’s now part of their recovery strategy.
Big congrats Mark & John, chalk it down!
