We are blown away by peoples’ generosity which is a reflection of their high regard for Derrick and his family.

Kildare Cycling Club’s Sunday coffee stop was lovely Ma's Kitchen in Rathangan to help promote our upcoming Mizen2Malin challenge which will help Derrick Cunningham on his own road to recovery.

Just 2 weeks to go!
Here at Kildare Cycling Club we are counting down the days until over a dozen of our toughest members take on the mammoth Mizen to Malin Challenge on September 10-13.

They will cycle over 700km in four days, starting on the island’s most southerly point on the Mizen peninsula in West Cork and finishing on its most northerly tip on the Inishowen peninsula.

These are miles that will matter more than most because they are taking this challenge on to raise funds to support Derrick Cunningham, a good friend from Rathangan who is facing the challenge of rebuilding his life after a spinal injury last December.

We had the great pleasure of meeting Derrick’s family in the square last Sunday to officially launch the M2M challenge,
The warmth that was shared has only strengthened our gang’s determination to get everyone across the finish line in Donegal while raising as much money as possible.

Every kilometre ridden and every euro donated will really help Derrick on his own road to recovery.

IT'S been a busy few months in the club, especially for those preparing for Mizen to Malin who are clocking up serious training mileage these weeks. Well done to all involved, keep it lit!💪

There’s still been time to get to a few sportives recently which are always special days out with like-minded people & great organisers.

A few of us returned to Portlaoise for the this year’s P.A.T.H cycle for the homeless, which is always a great fun spin for a really great cause and organised with support from our neighbours Newbridge Cycling Club & Post 27 Irish UN Vets Association.
The weather actually had the cheek to rain on Sophie, Triona & Clíona before they set out from Portlaoise Plaza Junction 17 but the sun and smiles came out by the time they left Mountrath to clock up the remaining kilometres around lovely Laois. As always the organisers fed everyone absolutely royally at the finish (pizza AND goujons!😋).
This really is a super friendly sportive with 53/100km options, music, raffles & face painting (Sophie asked especially for the club colours😛) so a great place to meet family afterwards.
The 53km course is relatively flat and ideal for anyone looking to try their first sportive.

Marble City Cyclers then got great weather last weekend for their legendary ‘Tour de Kilkenny’, another great charity fundraiser in the Midlands which our cyclists love to take part in thanks to its great routes & testing climbs.
It had three different options 77/110/160km this year and the KCC gang looked very happy with themselves as you can see, so well done to the two Shanes, Dan, John and Brian for conquering their latest ‘TdeK’.

It’s hard to believe that August is already here but we've still plenty of miles & smiles to share before the Summer is out and we get behind our Mizen to Malin crew. Long may the sun shine!

Everyone at Kildare Cycling Club is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Tony Redmond with whom we shared so many miles and smiles on the road.
Tony was such fun to ride with on our Sunday spins, always arriving with a story to tell, and he will be greatly missed.
Our deepest condolences go to his wife Nora, his sons Luke and Scott & all of his family and friends in Newbridge & Bunclody.

Seven members of Kildare Cycling Club were left buzzing after completing the 2026 Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle, an amazing event.
It’s already raised over €20m for charities and this year’s is expected to add over another million.

It was soooo well organised from start to finish - epic mountain scenery; epic mountains of brack; drizzle & rain in the first half; sunshine & spectacular views in the second; a brilliantly central start/finish in Killarney, Ireland and a real festival vibe after-party. It’s such a super community-cycling event and, as we’d been warned by club mates, we probably came home heavier than when we started after all the great food stops 😋

If you’ve ever contemplated doing ‘The Ring’ but been worried about the difficulty, our experience was that climbing Coomakista Pass around 120km wasn’t half as bad as some of the first-timers feared tho’ the fact it was immersed in cloud & we couldn’t see the climb may have helped😛
The 8km from Kenmare to Moll’s Gap, around the 160m mark, with so many miles in the legs already, proved tougher.
Yet no one stopped and the crazy hairpin descent back down to Killarney was totally worth it.
Beers, Hugo Spritzes & special memories were shared at the finish after an unforgettable 170km spin with 1560m of climbing.
Massive well done to all in Killarney & around the Ring who organise it like clockwork but with lashings of Kerry charm & wit, including those motivational posters throughout the route. ‘Still better than a spin class!’ was especially😂
Special thanks to our club mate Keith McCormack who wore new luminous socks so we wouldn’t lose him in the misht 🤭 and coached & cajoled a few of us first-timers through it like a pro, breaking it into manageable blocks & getting our pacing & nutrition spot on.
Keith you’re an absolute legend👊 & exactly the reason why joining a cycling club enriches people’s cycling & lives.
Big congrats to Dermot Cronin, Clíona Foley, Keith McCormack, Triona McCormack, John Murray, Bernard Ryan & Karen Ryan on getting the trip.👏🥳
