Dublin City Council is hosting free information workshops on how to apply for the Community Sports Facilities Fund (in Kilmainham & Northwood). These sessions will cover eligibility, application requirements, funding priorities and the supports available through the DCSWP Hub.

Sporting Liberties is a not-for-profit organisation which has been campaigning for over a decade to address the severe lack of green and recreational space for children in Dublin’s South West Inner City. In the SWIC and immediate surrounding area, home to 50,000 residents - including 8,500 children - there is not a single green area for organised sport.

We welcome the new CEO of Dublin City Council’s commitment to ensuring there is to be a full-size playing pitch at Marrowbone Lane. This is a significant and positive milestone.

Nonetheless, there remains much work to do, most notably around the timing for the delivery of the playing pitch. The children of Dublin 8 need playing facilities now, not years down the line.

We look forward to working closely with Dublin City Council, our local elected representatives, and other key stakeholders in the coming months. It is vital that the Dublin 8 community plays an integral role in these discussions, so that Dublin City Council’s interests, plans and timings are fully aligned with the urgent needs of our community.

A level playing field!

Join us to advocate for change by following our page! 8,500 kids in Dublin 8 without a playing pitch or proper sports facilities is not acceptable. Sporting Liberties is pushing for Dublin City Council to deliver multi-sports pitches in the South-West inner city as a matter of urgency. This would give the children of this community just a small percentage of what every town across Ireland already has.
