It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Freddie Strahan.

Freddie was not only a legend of Irish football, having represented Shelbourne FC with distinction as well as the senior Irish international team, he was an inspirational figure at Dublin Hospitals FC ,then St Vincent’s Hospital FC, from the early years.

Alongside John Seery, Freddie played a crucial role in the establishment of the club on the amateur football scene and managed the team to four Hospitals Cup wins and multiple league titles in the UCFL and LSL in the early days of St Vincent’s Hospital FC.

It’s thanks to Freddie that we are where we are today. We were delighted to have Freddie as the guest of honour at the 2024 Irish Hospitals Cup in the Summer. As always, he kept us all entertained with his stories and gave a typically honest appraisal of the football on display. He will always be remembered fondly and his legend will live on in DHFC.

Our thoughts are with Freddie’s family and friends at this sad time.

Rest in peace.
