⚽ FC Sports Development Centre: Block 3 Starts February 1st ⚽

Looking forward to Block 3 of the FC Sports Development Centre kicking off on February 1st.

These coaching blocks are built around individual player development, with a strong focus on:
• Technical improvement

• Confidence and decision-making
• Preparation for progression towards a high-performance environment

This Development Centre has been unlike traditional coaching blocks. The structure, planning, and purpose behind each session truly sets it apart, ensuring every player knows what they are working on and why.

🚨 The Difference Between Coaching and Shouting ⚽

It seems some people missed the point of my previous post (and a few even resorted to personal insults), so let me make this really clear.

When I talk about shouting at kids, I don’t mean giving them instructions, of course coaches should guide, encourage and help players during games and training. That’s part of our role.

But there’s a difference between coaching instruction and constant shouting or berating.

Children need space to make their own decisions, figure things out, and learn from mistakes without fear of being yelled at. If every action is controlled from the sidelines, we take away their ability to problem-solve and develop independence.

The real issue is the tone and language being used. Shouting at a child because they didn’t pass, didn’t shoot, or missed a tackle doesn’t develop them, it damages confidence and enjoyment. For many, it’s enough to make them fall out of love with the sport altogether.

Our job as coaches, teachers and parents is to create an environment where kids feel safe to try, to fail, and to try again because that’s how they grow, not just as players but as people.

In my own experience it’s the small man or the one with the small mindset in a club that is so hell bent on excluding the female coach from the men’s game. All it takes is just one sexist individual to influence this. It shouldn’t come down to gender to decide if a coach is the right fit.
