This coming Monday I welcome to episode 31 of the Attitude First Podcast.

This week we discussed the inner critic, negative self talk, its origins and how trying to hold yourself accountable can be destructive.

We also spoke about trigger foods and how just "keeping them out of the house" isn't really a solution.

Episode 31 will be available on Spotify at 6am on Monday. Thanks for joining me Brian!

These photos happen because of the decisions you make when nobody is watching. Alia absolutely earned every bit of the result she achieved.

From day one, she brought an incredible level of dedication, work ethic and drive to the process. She didn't just do the things she enjoyed or the things that came naturally to her. She committed to doing what was required, consistently.
She got her steps in. She completed her cardio after training. She showed up for every strength session. She nailed her nutrition, even when motivation wasn't high. She prioritised hydration. She worked on improving her sleep. She focused on the small habits that most people overlook.

What impressed me most wasn't that everything was perfect. It was how coachable she was.
Whenever we had difficult conversations or identified areas that needed improvement, Alia never took it personally. She remained open-minded, accepted the challenge and looked at feedback as an opportunity to get better rather than criticism. That mindset is rare and it's often the difference between those who talk about their goals and those who achieve them.

By the time we moved into photo shoot preparation, we weren't trying to build discipline overnight. The foundations had already been laid. We simply turned the dial up on habits she had already mastered.

The result wasn't just an incredible photo shoot. It was proof of what can happen when you combine consistency, trust in the process and a willingness to do the work, even when it's hard.

I'm incredibly proud of you, Alia. You earned this.
And for anyone reading this wondering if they could ever achieve something similar, remember this:

You don't have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to show up, listen, learn and keep going.

Most people massively overestimate how many calories they burn in the gym. An hour-long weights session might only burn a few hundred calories. That's why I've never viewed the gym as a calorie-burning tool.

The gym is where you build things.
🏋‍♂ïļ Strength
💊 Muscle
ðŸĶī Bone density
😊 Confidence
🧠 Resilience
📈 A body that's capable of more

Fat loss comes primarily from creating a calorie deficit through your overall lifestyle and nutrition habits. The role of strength training is to help you maintain (or build) muscle while you're losing weight, improve your health and shape the body underneath the body fat.

Think about it this way: Walking helps you burn calories. Nutrition helps you create a calorie deficit. Strength training helps ensure you actually like what you see when the weight comes off.

Stop trying to "earn" your food through exercise.
Start training to become stronger, fitter, healthier and more capable. The calories burned are simply a bonus.

If you look at lifting weight as a calorie burning tool and an excuse to "eat back" the calories you burned off... well that is probably what's keeping you stuck at the moment!

When it comes to big goals, you have to commit to making decisions and the correct decisions more often than not.

Negotiating with yourself on the things you don't want to do is often where you fall down. If you neglect the habits your find resistance against, you won't get far.

Alia is a client that shows up for herself. She sets a very high standard for each day and doesn't let distractions pull her away from the clear goal that she has in her mind.

Having a target means you have something to aim for. Without a target, you are just walking aimlessly down a path to nowhere. If you find yourself constantly falling off track with training or more commonly nutrition, its probably down to the fact that you don't have a clear enough target to aim for.

You need to be honest with yourself if you feel stuck. You need to ask yourself the hard questions to find the answers that will give you a clear target to aim for ðŸŽŊ

Amazing work so far this year Alia! Only the beginning 💊

Most people think getting in great shape is about finding the perfect diet, the best training plan or just "being more disciplined". To be honest, it's usually a shift in habits.

The people who stay stuck aren't necessarily less capable. They often just repeat the same patterns over and over. They start and stop. They rely on motivation. They look for quick fixes. They tell themselves they'll get serious next week.

The people who get in great shape aren't perfect either. They simply become more consistent.
They understand that one meal out or take away doesn't ruin their progress. They stop chasing extremes. They focus on what they can repeat week after week rather than what they can survive for 30 days.

They learn to track their food consistently. They train even when they don't feel like it. They take ownership of their decisions instead of blaming their circumstances or other people.

Most importantly, they stop viewing fitness as a temporary project and start treating it as a lifestyle.

If you're currently finding yourself on the left side of this graphic, that's okay. Every person who has transformed their body started there at some point. The goal isn't to change everything overnight. Pick one habit. Improve it. Then move on to the next. Over time, those small changes compound and eventually you become the type of person who naturally does the things that once felt difficult.

Your results will always follow your habits.
Change the habits and the results will take care of themselves.

Which habit are you changing first?
