We have been teaching locally in Blackrock for over 15 years & have loved working with everyone we have met during this time.

Pilates exercises improve core strength and balance the muscles around the joints, improving the way your body functions, looks, and feels. By strengthening your core, Pilates assists in improving your posture, reducing pain, recovering from and preventing injury, and improving participation in daily activities and sports.

All Physio Pilates classes are run by a Chartered Physiotherapist. The benefit of attending a Physio-led Pilates class is that individual injuries can be monitored and addressed. This is facilitated through small class sizes and hands-on assistance in combination with the ability to adapt the exercises to suit the individual's needs.

Physio Pilates is excellent for all ages and fitness levels. Weekly classes take place in Scoil Ursula, Blackrock, Cork.

Our Summer term of Physio Pilates classes is starting on Tuesday 27th May.

Beginners at 6:30pm
Mixed Intermediate/Advanced at 7:30pm

No previous Pilates experience is necessary for our beginners' classes. It is suitable for all ages & fitness levels (adult-only class).

All classes are run by a Chartered Physiotherapist & we will work with you to individualise your exercises to meet your specific goals.

Why do my back & neck hurt when I'm cycling?

Correct alignment when you are cycling is key to prevent pain & injury, & to improve your cycling efficiency. You need to have a 'neutral spine', i.e. your back should be roughly a straight line, not excessively curved or arched. Your core muscles should be engaged to support this position.

Your neck should also be in a neutral position, particularly avoiding over-extending your neck by looking too far forward.

Whether you are a recreational cyclist or you're racing, it's important to look after your back, neck & shoulders. If you're looking for help to improve your core, back & neck strength & maintain your flexibility, Physio Pilates can help you to meet your individual goals.

Why do we need strong glutes for running?

The gluteal muscles are your hip muscles located on the side & back of your buttocks. They move the thigh & stabilise the pelvis.

If your gluteal muscles are weak, when you are walking or running, your pelvis will drop, causing your thigh & knee on the raised leg to fall inwards towards the other leg.

This puts you at increased risk of injury & pain at your pelvis, hip, knee, or ankle. It also reduces the technique & performance of your run.

To prevent or improve any weakness, you should focus on improving your core strength, lower limb & hip strength, & balance.

What type of Pilates do you do? Physio Pilates Classes are Mat Pilates.

All of our exercises are done in lying, sitting, or standing on your mat. You use your body weight to provide the resistance to build strength during the classes. Sometimes, additional resistance is used with resistance bands or fitness circles.

This type of Pilates is the safest for anyone new to Pilates, returning after a break, or rehabilitating an injury.
