You become what you stay around.

Simple as that.

If your environment is chaos… you adapt to chaos.
If it’s discipline… you rise to that too.

But here’s the part most men miss:

Your past doesn’t trap you.
It builds you.

David didn’t escape that life by pretending it never happened.
He took the strength it gave him… and chose a better direction.

That’s the shift.

Not running from who you were.
Owning it. Refining it. Using it.

Strong.
Calm.
Honest.
Capable of both control and expression.

That’s a man.

Getting sober gives you your feelings back.
That’s also the hardest part. 😶

At 29, was experiencing emotions for the first time a 6-year-old in a grown man’s body.

Anger was the only feeling he knew. Then came the depression. The overwhelm. The complete inability to name what he was even feeling.

No emotional bandwidth. No emotional literacy. Just… terrifying.

If you’re in it right now you’re not broken. You just never got to learn this stuff. 🙏

What did your younger self have to learn to find safety in your little world?

You may have learned ways of being and patterns that served a purpose in a place you couldn’t control

But those patterns maybe not be serving the man you’ve grown up to be

discussing the closing off from emotions and vulnerability in the environment he grew up in as a necessary way to survive

But as a man he found strength in becoming vulnerable and expressing emotion

The key point to make with men’s work and being emotionally available.. it’s very different to living in those emotions without being able to stand strong when you need to be strong

In an upcoming episode of “We need to talk” we dug into these ideas in what I feel has been one of my best episodes very excited for this conversation to make an impact

You’re not lazy.

You’re just comfortable enough to stay the same.

If your life was unbearable… you’d move.
If things were bad enough… you’d act.

But you’re stuck in the middle.

Not happy.
Not miserable.
Just… tolerating it.

And that’s the most dangerous place to be.

Because nothing forces you to change.

Cold rooms get fixed.
Hot rooms get fixed.
But “meh” rooms? You sit in them for years.

So here’s the shift:

Stop asking how to get motivated.
Start asking…
“What am I tolerating right now that I shouldn’t be?”

Make it real.
Make it uncomfortable.
Make it unacceptable.

That’s where the fire comes from.

what would they say actually matters to you?

Not what you say.
Not what you post.
Not what you intend.

What does your life prove?

Your time.
Your habits.
Your attention.

That’s your real priority list.

And most men don’t like what that list says.

Because it shows the gap…
between who you say you are
and how you actually live.

And here’s the truth…

If your actions don’t match your words,
your words mean nothing.

So don’t tell me your goals.
Show me your routine.
