All students are welcomed with a reminder that each brings their own unique abilities an

d intentions to train together. Others may wish to improve fitness a little, develop some self defence, or practice martial art forms. Others may enjoy teaching, developing greater discipline, or partaking in gradings with the goal of achieving a black sash. Whatever a student’s motivation and focus is, it is for them to determine their particular goals and move towards them. With this in mind, it is for each student to discover and respect their own limits. At times the class may be demanding, with students encouraged to work hard. Competitiveness can be useful as a motivating force to excel beyond certain limits; it’s useful, however, to be conscious of this drive, in order to be appropriately self directed, yet not led by one's ego. One of the enigmas of studying a system of violence is that one should become less violent in oneself through improved self confidence, greater consciousness and respect for the power of our destructive capabilities, and questioning of the ego through our own learning within the art and the class. It is expected that students will be responsible outside of class and, while having the right to defend oneself, students should not use the skill they develop in a way that causes harm. If a student is fighting outside of class, engaging others in threatening ways or in acts or bullying, this may lead to suspension or expulsion from the club. The culture we create in ourselves and in our interactions with the world around us is one of the most influential things we can do with our lives. Sifus Patrick and Aaron strive to hold classes of a wholesome learning culture that balance skill, challenge, and achievement with fun, safety and awareness. We hope your journey in Li Ching Wu is an enjoyable and liberating one.

Celebrating the important milestone of Eve O'Connor & Alden Fitzmaurice grading to Black Sash last Saturday, 22nd November!

They both performed excellently, demonstrating the range of the Li Ching Wu syllabus.

Their grading included demos of forms, trapping, self-defence, sparring and combinations, along with a ShortFist section too. Other displays included Sanshou sparring and close-range striking sequences such as Chi Sau and Nuk Sau.

Always a pleasure to have different generations and groups of the Li Ching Wu community - the event featured visiting students and Sifu Karl Graham from and welcomed previous black sash student Sophia Whelan back for this occasion, who also taught a piece in the seminar.

Thanks to all who came in support, and we wish Eve & Alden further development in their journeys as martial artists

Celebrating quite a milestone this week as two students, Eve & Alden, grade for their Black Sashes on Saturday. It'll be both a celebration of the 12+ years they've been a part of this club and a challenge in the final assessment of such an achievement! All students are welcome and it'll be a great support to have several Sifus and previous Black Sashes join the day.
