There are numerous kite festivals held all over the world each year. While we cannot celebrate the Dublin Kite Festival this year, we have been learning about kite festivals in other countries! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿช

Washington State International Kite Festival is the largest kite festival in North America, attracting more than 100,000 attendees each year! The event, held annually on the third weekend of August since 1996, is held on the Washington state coast near Long Beach, Washington where there is a steady, strong wind. ๐ŸŒฌ

Events at the festival include kite fighting, kite competitions and aerial displays. The festival is hosted by the World Kite Museum in Long Beach. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Kite flying is a popular pastime in many different countries, with many Kite Festivals taking place across the globe each year. The Weifang International Kite Festival is an annual kite-flying festival held from April 20 to 25 in Weifang, China. ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ

Weifang is known as the kite capital of the world, as people consider it to be the birthplace of kites. Each spring, people in the city fly kites as a leisure outdoor activity. The designs on many Chinese kites have a symbolic meaning, or illustrations from Chinese folklore or history.๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ

The International Kite Festival (Uttarayan) is regarded as one of the biggest kite festivals celebrated worldwide. Months before the festival, homes in Gujarat begin to manufacture kites for the festival. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿฅณ

The International Kite Festival, called Uttarayan, takes place specially in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Ahmedabad is the kite capital of Gujarat, and accommodates visitors from many international destinations. There is also a Kite Museum, located at Sanskar Kendra in Paldi area of Ahmedabad. Established in 1985, it contains a collection of unique kites. ๐Ÿช๐ŸŽ

During the festival week the markets are flooded with kite buyers and sellers. In the heart of Ahmedabad, there is one of the most famous Kite markets - Patang Bazaar, which during the festive week opens 24 hours a day with buyers and sellers negotiating and buying in bulk. In addition to this, many families in Ahmadabad start making kites at home and setup small shops in their own homes. โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ™Œ

Kite surfing is a very popular watersport in seaside towns across the country; from Bundoran to Brandon Bay, there are many great locations to try kite surfing in Ireland. Developed in the 70โ€™s & 80โ€™s, kite surfing is an action sport combining aspects of wakeboarding, surfing, paragliding, and sailing into one extreme sport. A kiteboarder harnesses the power of the wind with a large controllable power kite to be propelled across the water.๐Ÿช๐Ÿ„โ€โ™€๏ธ

Our friends from Pure Magic Watersports are experts in kite surfing, they are also an important part of Dublin Kite Festival. Check out Pure Magic Watersports on social media, we hope to see each other at the next Dublin Kite Fest! Would you try kite surfing? Let us know in the comments below! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ™Œ

Our windy Irish weather is perfect for kite flying, which is great fun, but itโ€™s important to remember to fly your kite safely to avoid accidents! ๐Ÿค•

Don't fly too close to groups of people, especially young children. Avoid flying your kite close to roads, as landing a kite in a road could cause a serious accident! ๐Ÿš—

Also remember to keep clear of electric power lines, electrical signs, and TV and radio aerials. Don't fly your kite in winds stronger than recommended and never fly in stormy weather. Wet lines are conductive! ๐ŸŒฉ๐Ÿ’จ
โšก๏ธ
Always supervise small children when flying a kite in case of accidents, and watch out for rocks and holes if you are running with your kite. โ—๏ธ

If you follow these tips you will be sure to have a safe and fun kite flying experience! Enjoy! ๐Ÿช

Hang gliding is an extreme air sport or recreational activity in which the pilot flies a light, foot-launched heavier-than-air aircraft called a hang glider, usually made of an aluminum frame covered with synthetic sailcloth to form a wing.

Typically the pilot is secured in a harness suspended from the airframe, and controls the aircraft by shifting their body weight in opposition to a control frame.

The design of hang gliders is very close to kite design, and the principle used to fly a hang glider is similar to flying a kite! Would you be brave enough to try hang gliding? ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ˜Ž
