Hat-trick for record breaker Noel Howley. đź’«

After John Laste and Ross Alexander medaled in the Munster Master Track and field yesterday in Cork it was it was J&N’s Noel Howley’s turn to travel to the MTU Arena to take part in the Masters 1500m, 3,000m and the 800m.

Noel was representing his club Fethard AC competing at the over 75 age category. The standard at this age category is certainly not easy with a National, World and European masters champions in the field. Noel is certainly now a force to be reckoned with in the category, running a strong race from the gun to win the 1500m in fine style in a time of 7:18:57.

In the 3000m a distance that Noel is much more comfortable over, he set out at a strong pace up against fine runners in Geoff Stacey of St. Brendan’s and Sean Whelan of Ennis Track. It was a super race with no quarter given but Noel is such a strong competitor he never relented and kept the pressure on to power across the finish line in 16:16 a new men’s 75 Munster record by almost 2 minutes.
Both Geoff Stacey and Sean Whelan both broke the previous record set in 2021 by Billy Caball which shows the quality of the race. Billy will take solace in the fact that he set a new over 80 record of 22:30:52.
Super racing all round and a marvellous achievement by Noel Howley.

Noel was not finished there as he set his sights on a triple gold super Sunday. He kept body and mind together in this his final event of an amazing day as he completed the outstanding Triple Gold performance. Noel set the men’s 75 pace finishing a convincing first from Tim Joe Buckley of Ennis track in second and Sean Whelan Ennis track in third. To round off a fantastic day for the Fethard AC man.

J&N Coaching are very proud of Noel who is such a committed runner who loves his training especially on the track and is such a popular character with all in the group. Noel only managed to run two events last year but this year completed the “Hat trick” Such is the commitment of the man. One can only admire Noel’s love and thirst for competition. We look forward to his performance in the Nationals in August.

Congrats to Simona Vosyliute and Liz Lawlor on an amazing but challenging Di**le Adventure Race for 2026. Simona was joined by Gediminas Daskauskas well done to all.
The rain held off but the wind made it as challenging an event as could be imagined, but both ladies said it was a very enjoyable event and they will be back.

P.B. On Home Soil for Pawel. đź’«

Tarczyński Night Wrocław Half Marathon is a legendary event that electrifies the running community every year. When the June sun dips below the horizon, the streets of Wrocław turn into a vibrant, neon-lit arena, through which rolls a many-thousand-strong, multicolored torrent of human dreams, passion, and incredible energy!

The distance is the classic 21.097 km, but the setting of this race completely defies standards. The start and finish are located in the monumental, historic Olympic Stadium, which in nighttime illumination looks like a spaceship. The event’s hallmark is live classical or film music played at strategic points along the route, illuminated bridges (for which Wrocław is famous), and dense, loud cheering from thousands of spectators who party in the streets until late at night!

After a fantastic finish on the turf of the Olympic stadium where the runners will pick up a stunning, unique medal (which every year is a small work of art), and Wrocław invites you to a nighttime and daytime recovery in true championship style:

Nighttime chillout by the Oder and Slodowa Island After the race, so no heading straight back to the hotel. Wrocław comes alive at night like no other city. Head to the bustling Oder boulevards or to Słodowa Island to celebrate your success among thousands of other runners, with the rush of the river and the glow of streetlights at night. Wrocław Market Square and Cathedral island the next day, as part of a recovery walk, visit the second-largest market square in Poland with its beautiful Gothic Town Hall. Then head to Cathedral Island – the oldest, historic part of the city. A stroll along its cobbled streets, where you can still meet a real lamplighter hand-lighting gas lamps, is the perfect mental reset

Hunting for the Wroklow Dwarfs a brilliant way to gently “wake up” tired legs. There are already several hundred small bronze dwarf figurines hidden all over the city. Finding even a dozen of them is great fun and a chance to see the city’s hidden corners. Hydropolis and the Afrykarium at the Zoo: If you’re staying for the weekend, visit the unique, ultra-modern water knowledge center (Hydropolis) or the Afrykarium at the Wrocław Zoo. Walking through an underwater tunnel with sharks and rays swimming overhead is an amazing experience and relaxing in a cool, pleasant atmosphere

The Tarczyński Night Wrocław Half Marathon is an event you simply have to experience at least once in your life. The atmosphere of the start under floodlights, the glow of bridges reflected in the Oder, and the roar of thousands of voices at the finish inside the Olympic Stadium guarantee goosebumps and memories that will stay with you for life …..Conquer Wrocław under the cover of night!

So what better way for the J&N group to find out about this event than to send our Polish representative Pawel Hoc on a scouting mission.

The atmosphere was absolutely electric as Pawel set off under the night skies of Wroklow. Setting himself a a steady 3:30 per km pace, he hit the 5k mark in 17:40 and continued that through 10k with a 35:59 split. As the temperatures began to hit him physically Pawel reached 15k in a 53:38 split.

Pawel took great inspiration from his many family and friends there supporting him on an amazing summers night with wonderful drone displays making for a fantastic festival occasion. Pawel pushed thought the cramping legs to secure his official PB crossing the finish line in 1:15:49 and 49th position out of the 26.5 thousand participants that went to line.

Pawel reported after the race that the event was so well organised and made for a wonderful spectacle with a super charged atmosphere. One for the bucket list for those in the J&N Group .

The Munster Senior and Master championships took place on 6th June at the MTU Athletics Stadium in Cork. Ross Alexander of Coolquill AC and John Laste Fethard AC both competed in the 5k track race walk in very windy conditions. Both men went out hard but having to battle a really strong headwind on the back straight which was sapping. Despite the conditions Ross came home first in a really good time of 25:07:68 winning the Masters men’s 45 Munster title for 2026: Ross should be very happy with this after his fantastic performances in Sicily in the Europeans. John Laste came home in 2nd place overall and was delighted to win the Munster men’s 60 title in a personal best performance of 28:57:64. A good day out for both as they focus now on the Nationals Masters to be held at Morton Stadium Santry Dublin in August.
