As part of the ISBA Community Day on the 11th April, we will be joined by Dr. Helena Lydon. Helena is a Chartered Behavioural Psychologist and a Researcher and Lecturer at University of Galway. She has over 15 years of experience working to support adults and children in disability services across Ireland. Helena is the Director of the Applied Behaviour Research Clinic offering specialist interventions on sleep and feeding. Her research spans the application of behaviour analysis to a broad range of areas include online reading interventions, staff knowledge and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support, and social skills curricula to promote employment and social inclusion. More recently Helena has been involved in a number of EU Erasmus+ funded project which have focused on healthcare professional knowledge, awareness, and use of technology and the use of technology as a learning tool. Within these projects, Virtual Reality has been a focal point. In the current presentation Helena will discuss a number of projects she has been involved in which have focused on the use of virtual reality to improve experiences of attending medical appointment, in particular during blood draws, and online interventions to support autistic children manage their experiences of pain. Joeleen is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst with a passion for supporting children's emotional well-being. Specialising in early intervention and emotion regulation for school-aged children, Joeleen aims to provide effective strategies and support for children aged 18 months to 18 years. With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to her work, Joeleen is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children and families. Shannon's journey began with a focus on reducing high-risk behaviours in children requiring intensive support. However, as her career evolved, so did her passion. In recent years, Shannon has delved into specialist training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, expanding her scope to encompass mental health issues in youth. With a blend of personal, lived, and professional insights into neurodivergence, Shannon continues to empower and advocate for the thriving futures of neurodivergent children and youth.
