Semi final losses for both teams in Mohill last night but all the Cavs came home with heads held high after two spirited displays against the champions of their respective leagues.
With just five players available, the men's team emptied the tank to try and keep pace with the Atlantic Eagles. The Eagles opened up a fifteen point gap in the second quarter. It looked like they would push on for a blow out victory but our lads dug the heels in from there. While the Cavs had moments that looked like the makings of a comeback, the Sligo side proved their worth as league winners to manage the game and maintain the margin.
Thomas Callaghan and Joe Fleming led the Cavs scoring with 17 and 16 respectively.
In a similar affair, the women's team gave up a first half run that they just couldn't make up for. Down 16 at the half, it felt like the undefeated All Stars would drive on for a 30 or 40 point win but the Cavs showed their character and kept Sligo within 20. Just four points between the sides in the second half but the damage was done.
Laura Sharkey led the Cavs with 12, followed by Sasha Lavin with 10.
That's a wrap for the Cavs season. Thanks to all the players for their efforts since September. The men's team achieved their goal of Top 4 qualification and a massive success to have the women's team back up and running, fulfilling thirteen fixtures after a season long absence.
Thanks to the LLR, our referees, table officials, Castlerea Enerprise Hub and all of our sponsors. Basketball doesn't happen without the efforts and backing of these groups. We are so grateful for all of your time and support.
