54.111634, -6.762358 Founded in December 1916 by among others Monaghan's greatest athlete of the 20th century John "The Runner" McGeough, a native of Annaglaive, who emigrated for many years at the turn of the twentieth century to Blackhill in Glasgow, Scotland. John was an Olym
pic Silver Medalist at 1500m in the 1906 Games and it is widely believed that the origin of the Blackhill Emeralds G.A.A. club name stems from this historical fact and also from the famous Emerald flute band from that era. Our club crest commissioned in 2007 and originally drawn by artist Nelius Flynn, pays homage to this Glaswegian link to our origins by featuring a Celtic cross as its centre piece.
