🔥 WHAT A COMEBACK! WHAT A WIN! 🔥

Stabannon Parnells showed incredible heart to pull off a dramatic victory in an absolute thriller against O’Raghallaighs!
We started like a house on fire 🔥 Patrick Reynolds raised the first green flag of the day, followed almost instantly by Harry Butterly coolly converting from the penalty spot. Colm Giggins kicked a fine point before Conor Clinton found the net, and Harry Butterly stroked home his second penalty of the half. Charlie McBride also added to the tally!
Despite our massive goal threat, O’Raghallaighs rallied hard and took a narrow lead into the break.

The second half was a real battle, but our bench proved to be the game-changer! 💥 Ryan Shevlin made an instant impact off the wire, burying a massive goal shortly after coming on, while Tadgh Gorman chipped in with a crucial score. A brilliant 2-point free from Patrick Reynolds and a lovely point from play by Conor Clinton kept us right in the hunt.

***Ladies Intermediate Match Report***

Stabannon Parnells GFC drew with Naomh Martin in their final group game of the Intermediate Championship in Stabannon on Friday evening. The draw puts Stabannon as winners of the group who will now go on to play Hunterstown in the Championship Semi Final.

The team captained by Aoife Lowth started off strong with goalie Katie Martin pulling off a great save to avoid an early goal by Naomh Martin. The opposition got the first score of the game by scoring a point with only 2 minutes gone in the game. Stabannon were unlucky in their immediate attack but on the fourth minute Clodagh Hamilton Young goth the home side on the scoreboard after a great pass from Grace Gormley. Stabannon went through a phase of being unlucky by missing goal opportunities and points and Katie Martin again pulled off a great save at the other end. Naomh Martin were also guilty of wides but they got two points back on the board before Stabannon scored again with Aisling Gormley putting the ball over the bar. With only a point between the teams half way through the first half, Naomh Martin went on the attack and scored two goals within a minute to stretch their lead to seven points with the score board reading Naomh Martin 2-03 and Stabannon 0-2.
Stabannon responded with a well taken goal from Mary Maloney after some great play from Stabannon, Naomh Martin responded with a point from a free while Stabannon’s Zara Sweeney got her name on the scoreboard with a point after great combination play with captain Aoife Lowth. It was back to a four point lead for the visitors. Naomh Martin were awarded a free and it resulted in a goal after the ball hit the cross bar and ended up in the back of the net. Zara Sweeney secured another point for Stabannon leaving the score at half time – Stabannon 1-4 Naomh Martin 3-4.
Stabannon had it all to do in the second half and changes at half time saw Caoimhe Boyle and Anna Sweeney come into the play for Stabannon.

A strong start for Stabannon who were again unlucky in the first moment of play not to score a goal. However in response to the early miss, Zara Sweeney found the back of the oppositions net to leave a goal between the teams. Stabannon were playing strong, holding and winning possession but converting from the possession was challenging for the home side who had a number of misses in the early stages of the first half. Another point from play and a point from a free took the deficit back to one point between the teams ten minutes into the second half. Naomh Martin had yet to score in the first half with Stabannon dominating play as Sophie Smith converted a point from a free on the 17th minute to draw the game much to the delight of Smith. Again, while Stabannon retained possession converting was again a problem with a number of wides and balls dropping short into the hands of Naomh Martin goalie who was excellent on the night. In the last ten minutes of the game Naomh Martin responded with a point to put them one ahead followed by a goal to put them four points ahead with ten minutes remaining.
This game was going to go to the wire with both sides fighting for a win to secure a place at the top of the group, no-one was prepared to give up and a point from Zara Sweeney left three between the teams. Stabannon captain led the charge of the home side when needed and with excellent defending from Stabannon forwards to not let the Martins get the ball up the field was rewarded with a goal from Sophie Smith to leave the sides level at full-time.
This was a tough contest for the home side but a contest that all players rose too and they will be delighted to get the draw. It was the determination, courage and skill of all players that contributed to this match result and for the first time in many years Stabannon secured a straight forward path to the Intermediate Championship Semi Final.
