Sometimes it can feel like no matter how hard you work, how much effort you put in, and the amount of hours you do, the recognition just isn’t there. (SPOILER: I have the solution at the bottom of this!) If effort = success, you’d be on the fast track to the career of your dreams.

I learned the hard way, on my own journey to becoming MD for a top bank in NYC, that hard work does NOT equal success.

Take my client as an example.

She was known as the hardest worker on her team, regularly staying late and getting more tasks done off her to-do list than many of her colleagues. Yet she was stuck at the middle performance level rating for years. She knew she was meant for more, yet every review she came out as β€˜meets expectations’ or β€˜average’.

That’s when she turned to me for help. Frazzled and on the verge of burnout, she asked β€œwhat do I have to do to get the recognition I deserve?!” So we worked on a few things together.

Firstly I showed her how to work smarter not harder, how to spend time on things to actually move the needle, how to get recognised and strategically play the game, and how to break down the internal barriers that were keeping her stuck.

The result? Within 6 months she had jumped up to the top performance band, moved organisations and bagged herself a 100k pay rise! But even better, she’s working less, sleeping better, spending more time with her family, AND feeling like she’s actually achieving her full potential.

I want that for you too.

ntrigued? My 6 month programme, The Career Activist, is now open for enrollment and I’d love for you to join me.

I get asked a lot what are some small changes I can make in managing my career that would have the biggest impact? As you can imagine I find this such a hard question to answer. I have so many thoughts & ideas I want to share, while knowing we all face different changes in our lives and careers.

To start answering this question, I put together a video series highlighting the 5 Most Common Myths or Mistakes I see being made in managing and navigating careers, and how to overcome them.

You can sign up to this complimentary video series at the link in my bio.

For transparency I want to share that I made each and everyone of these mistakes myself, and often on repeat.

Learning, and UNLEARNING, all that I had thought about my career was a journey, but very much worth taking. These insights had a dramatic impact on my job, my career and my life…allowing me to navigate and blend my life and career much better.

This is just the starting point…some high level insights to help you today.

In my upcoming The Career Activist Online course I will be covering topics such as this and so much more…

As I am still in build mode if there are any particular topics you would find beneficial now is the time to share! DM and let me know what you most want to learn.

Up to 200 Hours a Year....that's the number of non-promotable hours of work women do each year. That's an ENTIRE MONTH of work.
*
Before I even launch into my rant about non promotable work maybe you haven’t heard this term before.
*
At its core non-promotable work is tasks that help an organisation (or someone within it) but don’t help advance your career.
*
Within the book β€˜The No Club: Putting a Stop to Women’s Dead-Ended Work’ their findings show that women spend up to 200 more hours a year on non promotable activities
*
You can look at this one of two ways…either you are working an extra 200 hours a year, or those 200 hours are not being put towards completing tasks that are more impactful and valuable to your organisation.

My life changed in the summer of 2019 when I went on my first safari in Zimbabwe and Botswana.
*
Even now, I still find it hard to share the true impact of that experience.
*
It changed how I viewed my life, what I wanted from life and what I truly valued. And I put it all down to this unique experience. The true opportunity get away from the hustle and bustle of life, seeing animals in their true habitat in the wild and getting a chance to really think…without the normal distractions put me on such a different path in life.
*
Everyone on that trip knew my dream was to return to the region and bring a group of women with me for a safari and coaching retreat.
*
It has taken nearly 4 years in the making but now it going to happen in June 2023….I will be going to Tanzania this time, with the amazing photographer and we will be bringing 8 women with us.
*
Are you ready to change up your life? If you want to create the space, time and most importantly energy to focus on you this is the perfect opportunity.
*
Join us on this trip to feel energised, focused and reconnected with YOU!

New Years Resolutions πŸ‘Ž
*
I love the energy of the new year…the sense of hope….the sense of what might be possible in this new year, but I never make new year’s resolutions.
*
As magical as the energy of a new year can be we do not become a new person on the 1st January each year. Often resolutions are unrealistic. We set these goals at a time when we have no empathy for our future self. We assume our future self will always be positive, always full of energy, motivation and discipline.
*
What I DO LOVE about this time of the year is taking the time to reflect on the previous year. What am I grateful for, what worked well for me, what do I want to bring from last year into this year.
*
And I take the time to think about what didn’t work so well, what is no longer serving me, what do I want to leave behind in the previous year. This is not about judging myself but about getting curious.
*
As part of this I identify my goals for the coming year….personally and professionally. The magic though….is not in setting goals but identifying what are the habits that need to happen on a regular basis to make these goals a reality. While vision boards are great the reality is it takes action if we want our lives to be different at any point in time (this doesn't have to be new year only).
*
If you are interested in creating the space, time and energy for this reflection join me this Sunday 8th January at a One Day Retreat / Workshop. Myself and will be helping you on this journey. Linked in bio to buy last few tickets available. DM with any questions
