Castlebar Celtic is an Irish women's football team, based in Castlebar, Co. The club is the women's section of amateur club Castlebar Celtic; founded in 1924. In August 2011 the club was announced as one on the inaugural members of the newly founded Women’s National League (known as the Bus Eireann Women’s National League for sponsorship reasons) alongside Cork Women’s WFC (Cork), Peamount United

(Dublin), Raheny United (Dublin), Shamrock Rovers FC (Dublin) and Wexford Youths Women’s AFC (Wexford). In the first season Celtic finished in 5th place with their young squad taking time to adapt to a higher standard of football under the tutelage of Jeremy Dee. The following season showed the quality that existed in the squad, although they still struggled for consistency finishing 4th in a 7 team league (DLR Waves from Dublin joining the league) and reaching the League Cup Final, losing out 6-3 to Peamount United in May 2013. In November 2013 Castlebar lost the WFAI Umbro Senior Cup Final 3-2 after extra time to Raheny United. This game was played in the Aviva Stadium and was televised by RTÉ. Athlone IT soccer scholarship recipients

Athlone Institute of Technology reaffirmed their continued support of all sports when over 90 sports scholarships were awarded at a ceremony in the college.
The scholarship launch was held prior to the official opening by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring of Athlone IT’s new 12 million Gym and High Performance Centre on the campus.

Sligo Rovers can confirm that under-19 manager and goalkeeping coach Ciaran Kelly has departed the club to take up the position of manager with Castelbar Celtic.

Kelly initially came to the club in 2002 for two years before returning in 2009 and staying ever since in both a playing and coaching capacity.

He played a huge role in the club’s on-field success with his famous heroic penalty saving in the 2010 and 2011 FAI Cup finals. The keeper was also part of the 2012 league-winning squad.

He has also been successful in recent years in a coaching capacity with a lot of success with the club’s under-19 team including winning their section of the league this season.

His final game seen the team lose at the quarter-finals stage on penalties to Limerick Saturday.

The Mayoman was also an important part of the first team coaching staff in the last couple of years.

Kelly leaves the club with his place as a club legend cemented. All at Rovers would like to thank him for the service he has given the club and wish him the very best in the future with Castlebar.
