New Mayo Community Sports Coach Training Programme Launched
Have you a keen interest in sport? Are you unemployed, working part time, retired or have some spare time? Do you want to obtain coaching experience in GAA, Athletics, Soccer, Rugby, Basketball, Cycling and other sports so that you can work as a coach in a club, school or community setting?
Mayo Sports Partnership in association with Sport Ireland, Dormant Accounts Board, South West Mayo Development Company, Mayo County Council, Athletics Ireland, Connacht GAA, the FAI, Connacht Rugby, Cycling Ireland and the Irish Heart Foundation will deliver a Community Sports Coach Training Programme in Castlebar commencing beginning of October.
Community Coaching is an exciting initiative originally piloted in Mayo and now recognised as a national programme delivered through the Sport Partnership Network. Numerous successful programmes have taken place throughout Mayo with the initiative receiving an Aontas STAR award in 2013 which recognises excellence in adult education.
As well as coaching awards in the sports listed above course content will include a classroom based learning component including a QQI accredited module in Occupational First Aid. It will also deliver accredited training in Child Protection in Sport- Safeguarding 1, Sport Ireland Active Leadership, Coaching Irelands – Coaching Children / Physical Literacy Programmes and Disability Awareness.
In addition to these accredited modules the programme will also provide information through specialist guest speakers on how to set up and manage your own business, enterprise opportunities, job readiness skills, personal development, building self esteem and self confidence, marketing /public relations, identification of personal progression options in employment plus further education and training opportunities. Trainees will also be afforded the opportunity to coach in local primary schools and also deliver some local community participation initiatives.
This Community Coaching programme will commence the beginning of October for 3 days a week for 10 weeks and is open to men and women who can see the potential in becoming a part time / full time coach in these sports or in developing their own business.
The Community Sports Coach Training Programme is supported by the Dormant Accounts Board and is an equal opportunity training programme.
