It wasn't to be for the Town's Under 11 girls on Saturday at Milebush Park in the Mayo Youths Shield final against Claremorris.
Ballina started slowly and found themselves 2-0 down early on, but they battled and pulled a goal back before half-time.
It was nip and tuck in the 2nd half, but Claremorris killed the game off with 10 minutes to go by getting a third goal.
Overall, Claremorris had the better chances and were deserved winners, but this group of Ballina girls have a lot to be proud of having only been together for four months.
Congratulations to Claremorris and well done to our girls and their coaches for making it such an entertaining game. It was a great day out for players, coaches, family members and supporters! 🔵⚪

Castlebar Town (Rumley Cup) and Straide & Foxford (Mary Walsh Cup) booked their places in the semi-finals of their respective competitions last night.

Town welcomed Swinford to Castlebar where Louise Dowling was quick off the mark with a goal in the first minute.
Always expect a tight affair between these league title contenders and a second goal didn't materialise until minute 82, Dowling again, getting on the end of a delivery from Shauna Redmond.
Beth Roache had Swinford's sole score on 89 minutes.

It took extra time to sort out matters between Crossmolina and S&F where it finished 2-2 after 90 minutes.
Rebecca Conlon put S&F into the lead on seven minutes with the home side replying through Dara Moore 10 minutes later.
S&F nudged ahead again five minutes into the second half through Fiona Roache before Moore netted again to level it with 64 minutes played.
Second-half substitute Erin Mulroy was to prove the difference between the sides, with two goals in extra time to ensure her side progress.

Straide & Foxford will now meet Kilmore away in the semi-finals, with Killala at home to Ballinrobe.
In the Rumley Cup, Conn Rangers host Kiltimagh Knock United in their semi-final, with Castlebar Town meeting Manulla.
Both cup semi-finals will be played on Friday, August 11.

A three-way battle is underway at the top of the Mayo Women's Football League, which has now split into Premier and First Division.

Castlebar Town put themselves back on top of the Premier Division table with a 6-2 win over Kiltimagh Knock United on Saturday evening. Manulla and Swinford are just one point behind on 25 points, with Manulla having a game in hand.

Kiltimagh Knock turned in a very positive performance on their first outing in the top tier, with Ellen Boyle latching on to a through ball from Anna McDonnell for a lovely opening goal at CMS Park.
It was level at the break courtesy of Chloe Morley and Town had an early second-half goal through Ava Keane. Town took their scoring chances when they presented as KK tired, tagging on further goals through Morley again, Emma Gibbons, Keane for her second of the evening and Mary Tyrrell before Anna McDonnell put home a sweet free kick in reply for the home side.

The weekend's other Premier Division tie involved Swinford and Conn Rangers with a Bria McLoughlin goal the difference there with the game's only goal for hosts Swinford.

Friday's First Division fixture saw the Kilmore women in good form down home when they saw of Killala 2-0. It took until the 70th minute for the first goal to arrive via Annie Lynskey, and substitute Molly O'Connor sealed full points for Kilmore on 78 minutes.

Next weekend attention turns to cup competitions with Castlebar Town at home to Swinford in what promises to be a cracking tie in the first round of the Rumley Cup. Crossmolina host Straide & Foxford in the Mary Walsh Cup first round. Both games are down for 7.30 p.m. on Friday, July 7.

🔵🟡 U15 Girls Cup Quarter Final Result 🔵🟡

After celebrating as U15 League Division one winners on Thursday evening the girls were back to business on Sunday drawn away to Premier League table toppers Manulla. The Killala girls started the sharper and got the perfect start when Caoimhe O Donnell was taken down by the keeper with Ciara Kearney slotting home the resultant spot kick. Killala's joy was short lived as Manulla equalised on their first attack of note. Manulla were linking well and looked dangerous on the left wing. However Killala were defending well and making their own chances. Killala took the lead again when Kearney drilled an unstoppable shot to the corner of the net from outside the box. The defense and midfield were combining well. Caithlin Gough standing into goal for the injured Grace Hannick was making some important saves. Shortly before the break a nice through ball link up found Isabel Trautt who finished well to put killala 3-1 up at the break. The second half was a very tight affair with our back four of Eva Hannick, Mary Duffy Caoimhe Murphy and Kate Lawlor kept busy but holding their own very well. In midfield Caoimhe O Donnell, Ella McLoughlin, Aoife Finnerty and Katie Carroll all put in huge shifts. With fifteen minutes left Killala went 4-1 up when Isabel Trautt put a foot to Kearneys inswinging corner. The home team seemed stunned but came at Killala with everything and scored two goals in the last ten minutes with our girls out on their feet. Killala however held on to claim a very deserved win in an exciting battle. Aoibheann Tuohill and Amy Cooney also came on the second half to relieve the tired legs. All thirteen girls that travelled got game time. Congrats girls a huge win. 🟡🔵
