A clean sweep of the podium and then some. 🏆
Ross McDonald's Rope Dock Atara took the 2026 1720 European Championship at Lough Derg Yacht Club, finishing nine points clear of Robert Dix's LemonCello after ten races. Fionn Lyden's Spiced Beef was third and Finn Lynch sailed Mo into fourth, one week after finishing eighth at the ILCA 7 World Championship in Dún Laoghaire.
All four of those boats were racing with one design X-Drive sails and Matrix spinnakers from UK Sailmakers Ireland, and it was great to see so many of the 17 boat fleet flying sails from the Cork-based loft. 🇮🇪
The championship was not an easy one. Gusts touched 37 knots on the heavy days, with 1720s reportedly hitting 18 knots downwind and a few masts finding the water. The lighter days brought Lough Derg's famous shifting breeze. Eight different boats won races across the series, which tells you everything about the depth of this fleet.
