Gaynor Cup – 13th/14th Place Play-Off Result

Carlow signed off from this year’s Gaynor Cup in impressive fashion, securing a highly respectable 13th-place finish out of 30 teams with a hard-fought comeback victory over the North East Regional League.

Buoyed by yesterday’s win over Mayo, the girls started brightly and controlled the early stages. However, they fell behind after 15 minutes when the North East winger produced a stunning long-range strike that curled into the top corner.

Carlow responded well and deservedly drew level just before half-time. Burrin Celtic’s Lexi Rose Kenny delivered an excellent cross from the right, and Killeshin’s Abbie O’Gorman put the goalkeeper under pressure with a strong challenge. The ball spilled loose, and O’Gorman reacted quickest to bundle it over the line.

The winning goal arrived midway through the second half courtesy of Killeshin’s Bianka Frydlewicz, who unleashed a superb long-range effort that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

A fantastic way to finish the tournament and a great achievement for the squad and management team.

SFAI Gaynor Cup How to Watch your Game Guide!

Throughout the week we will have cameras on pitches 1,2 and 4 which will each have their own broadcast.

The goals show will have main action from pitch 1 and will show goals as they go in from pitches 2 and 4 whilst also giving updates as goals go in from the other games!

If you want an overall update of everything going on at the Gaynor Cup with commentary and replays or would like to see the match on pitch one then the goals show is for you!

The very best of luck to our 2 New Oak players Lyla Smith and Emma Dooley who head to Limerick with the Carlow Academy Gaynor squad next week.

We are very proud of Emma and Lyla who will no doubt represent their club and county excellently at the prestigious tournament. Have a great week girls, enjoy every minute of it 💚🤍

A massive well done to our 3 New Oak boys Finn, Ben and Caeden who were involved with the Carlow Academy U13 team v Kilkenny in the Interleague Trophy Final yesterday.

It took a penalty shootout to determine the winner in a tight contest with Finn scoring a free kick to level the game in extra time and both Ben and Caeden scoring their penalties in the shootout 👏⚽️

Congrats to the team and coaches, great achievement 👏🇬🇳🏆
