Carlingford Lough Greenway

Carlingford Lough Greenway Greenway (footpath and cycleway) along the route of the former Dundalk, Newry and Greenore Railway line, along the shore of Carlingford Lough.

The Greenway links Omeath and Carlingford along the shore of Carlingford Lough. It runs between Carlingford Marina and Omeath promenade. Most of the route is off-road but access does require use of public roads.

🚧 Greenway Temporary Closure Notice 🚧

Louth County Council advises that a section of the Carlingford Lough Greenway will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists from Tuesday 26 May 2026 for 5 weeks, to facilitate works at Narrow Water Bridge.

✅ Local and emergency access will be maintained
↪️ Diversions will be in place via Fathom Line, R179 and L7051

LOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL
TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROAD
Section 75 Roads Act, 1993
(Roads Regulations 1994)
Louth County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to close:

• The Carlingford Lough Greenway from a point 650m Northwest of its junction with Local Road L7051 to a point 2.4km Southeast of Victoria Lock.

• The closure, which is to facilitate works at Narrow Water Bridge, will maintain traffic via Fathom Line and R179 Newry Road and L7051.

To pedestrian and cyclist traffic at all times from Tuesday 26th May 2026, for a period of 5 weeks inclusive to facilitate works at Narrow Water Bridge.

Local access and emergency access will be maintained.
Diversion Route North: Northbound Traffic will be diverted via L7051, along R179 and Fathom Line to Victoria Lock.
Diversion Route South: Southbound Traffic will divert via the Fathom Line and R179, onto L7051 to the access to the Greenway.
Any person who wishes to object to this closure should lodge an objection in writing (envelope clearly marked “Road Closure Objection”) to the undersigned or via Louth County Council’s Online Consultation Portal https://consult.louthcoco.ie/en/browse not later than 12 noon on Friday 8th May, 2026.
