‼️ IMPORTANT MESSAGE‼️

Dear parents as you know tomorrow night we are holding an EGM. We need you to volunteer and get involved so that our girls can continue to play. There is no job very onerous if we all lend a hand. Over the next few messages I will outline the roles that need to be filled. Please note - Two parents can come together to fill a role eg chair person and vice chair person. Most roles do not need parents to be pitch side each week except the trainers. Even the role of mentor, does not need to be weekly… if we can get more parents involved then we can do a rota.
▪️Role of Chairperson (& vice chairperson if shared) is to oversee the running of the club. That includes
- together with Secretary call meetings and set agenda
- chair meetings
- ensure officers in place within committee structure eg child welfare officer
- make sure equipment is purchased for teams to train at all ages
- pass on any relevant correspondence to Secretary
- liaise with committee on a regular basis to ensure all going well.
▪️Role of pitch liaison officer (& vice pitch liaison officer if shared)
- establish good links with relevant person in GAA.
- liaise with that person re pitch availability for training and matches
- take requests from trainers/mentors for pitch availability for matches and negotiate with GAA for pitch availability.
- feed back to trainer/mentor re availability and book/confirm as requested.
This is a new role as it was in previous years part of chair persons role.
▪️Role of secretary (& vice/assistant secretary of shared)
- agree dates for meetings with chairperson & set agenda
- notify committee/members of meetings
- if online send link/create group
- take minutes of meetings
- checking club emails very regularly and responding to those emails ie forwarding to relevant person, etc.
- communicating with county board where relevant
▪️Role of Avondu representative
- attend meetings and feed back relevant information to the club
It would be ideal if 3 or 4 parents agreed to do this role. Meetings are approx monthly so a rota could be set up and each parent would only have to attend 2 or 3 meetings.
▪️Role of county board representative
- attend and feedback to club any relevant information.
Again this it would be ideal if 4 parents agreed to do this and do a rota. If you would rather not go to these meetings alone, 2 parents can come together to attend meetings.
Again we would ask that at least one parent attend tomorrow night from each house hold. This is OUR club for OUR daughters. It is not ok to expect someone else to run it. We can all have a role no matter how small. Support and mentorship will be provided to any person taking on any of these roles until the person/people feel confident.
To remind you Most of these roles do not require a weekly pitch side commitment. They can be done in their own time. Please turn up and get involved!!!

Here are five great reasons to get your girl involved in camogie:

1. Develop hand-eye coordination

Developing the skills required to be a good camogie player at an early age will stand to a child for life. If they can master getting a sliotar off the ground, belting it down the field, and catching balls high in the air, they'll be able to turn their hand to any other sport. Skills like hand-eye coordination will stand to them in all areas of life.

2. The sense of community

Being a member of a camogie club is about so much more than playing the game. It's almost like joining a second family. Along with making a whole new circle of friends, your little ones will enjoy great days out. Team outings with underage teams like the under 8s and under 10s are a big part of the camogie calendar, with girls getting the opportunity to go to big games in Croke Park to watch their heroes at work.

3. Be part of the fastest field game in the world

Hurling and camogie are known as the speediest field games in the world - a great coup for all players of the game. Camogie is also one of the toughest sports around, and even the youngest players wear their bruises with pride.

4. Become disciplined

Showing commitment to the game and taking on the responsibility of being part of a team are huge parts of playing camogie. Not showing up for training or missing a match means letting down an entire team - lessons that are hard-learned throughout life. Learning the importance of these values at an early age comes with huge benefits.

5. Earn the respect of other athletes

Playing camogie comes with some major bragging rights. It's well-known that GAA players are made of harder stuff, and if you can master camogie, you can play anything. And that's not something to be sniffed at!
