Our 2017 Development Squad had a great time at last weekends Cockhill Celtic Football Tournament.

In the group stages the squad began with a 2-0 defeat to Eglington Eagles. They bounced back strongly with a convincing 3-0 victory over Foyle Harps, Danny Brogan, Ethan Doherty & Lauren Doherty with the goals. In their final group game they had to settle for 2-2 draw against Phoenix Athletic, Ethan Doherty & Danny Brogan once again on target to advance to a semi-final.

In the semi-final they played the hosts Cockhill Celtic and in a very tight game Anthony Dorcu came closest to scoring his effort cleared off the line thus sending the game to penalties. Cockhill prevailed in the penalty shoot-out to advance to the final.

A great day out for this squad who performed really well. Thank to Cockhill Celtic for the invite.

Best of luck to former Hearts girl Heidi Gill who began her second season of College Football at the William Penn University in Iowa, USA.

Heidi got her Sophomore season off to the perfect start scoring the opening goal in a 5-1 away victory over Dordt. 💙

Both defences were on top in this keenly contested local derby in excellent conditions at Castle Park. The home side had the better of the first half with Stephen McBride & Ethan Soal having good opportunities to open the scoring. Killian Hegarty came closest to score when his cross struck the crossbar before being cleared to safety.

The visitors had the best of the second half with Taylor Clarke (pictured previously) producing two wonderful saves to deny Aaron Stevenson & David Graham. Both teams had to settle for a share of the points.

Buncrana recorded a comfortable six one victory over an understrength Culdaff side in front of a large attendance at Caratra Park, with perfect playing conditions contributing to an entertaining contest. The home side made the ideal start, taking the lead after just 2 minutesfollowing a good initial save from Zach Conlon, Mathew Brown reacted quickest to the rebound and calmly drilled the ball into the bottom left corner. Culdaff competed well for much of the first half and enjoyed a good spell over the next 30 minutes although they were unable to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities. Buncrana dealt a decisive double blow before the break when Hugh Aaron McGonagle latched onto a through ball in the 38th minute and showed excellent composure to finish from twelve yards and added a third goal just before half time when Caolan Doherty converted from the penalty spot after a Buncrana player was upended in the box.

Buncrana added a fourth goal five minutes into the second half when McGonagle grabbed his second of the game on 50 minutes scoring from inside box into roof of net and across from the left. Culdaff produced great goal after Benny McLaughlin burst into the penalty area before producing a clever backheel into the path of the advancing Tiernan McGeoghaghan who rifled a low shot into the corner of the net.With Culdaff pushing forward in search of another goal, Buncrana regained control Caolan Doherty got his second goal again from a great cross from Liam Quigleyon the left. The scoring was completed late on when a superb cross from Adam Curran down the right wing was met by substitute Sean Mullan, who powered a header home from six yards and cap an impressive Buncrana performance.

Huge congratulations to former Hearts manager Stephen Parkhouse & former Hearts coach Colin Logue who guided Derry City U15s to a memorable victory over Shelbourne in yesterday's LOI Academy Michael Hayes Cup Final. Well done lads.
