I (jack English) have been training the discipline of Parkour for 9 years now. Like other disciplines Parkour is a form of movement which requires focus and strength. It is the act of traversing obstacles in a controlled and safe manor. Parkour teaches it's students the necessary skills to overcome any obstacle within ones path in the natural environment. It can involve running, jumping, climbing,
vaulting, sliding, crawling, swinging and spinning about. Tumbling is a desired attribute. Parkour brings to fitness a whole new level of total body workout's. With the exercises involved in Parkour you will develop a strong core and increased body awareness. This is a playful activity that will keep you fit and healthy. I have founded 'Jump East Coast' a Parkour dedicated business set up to offer Parkour tuition to all ages, gender and fitness levels. It has been going since 2015 so there is still plenty of progress to be made. The interest shown had been all positive so far and the future is looking bright. The demand for classes in this sport have been increasing recently as seen on the 'Dublin Parkour and Freerunning' Group page. Definition - What is Parkour / Freerunning / Art Du Deplacement? Parkour / Freerunning / Art du Deplacement is the non-competitive physical discipline of training to move freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, climbing and quadrupedal movement. In practice it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, which include functional strength and fitness, balance, spacial awareness, agility, co-ordination, precision, control and creative vision. It is a sport that encourages self-improvement on all levels, reveling one's physical and mental limits while simultaneously offering ways to overcome them. It is a method of training one's body and mind in order to be as completely functional, effective and liberated as possible in any environment. The sport aims to build confidence, determination, self discipline and self-reliance, and responsibility for one's actions. It encourages humility, respect for others and for one's environment, self-expression, community spirit, and the importance of play, discovery and safety at all times.
