Bray Sailing Club are delighted to participate in the event "Bray's Maritime History: Celebrating a Century on the Waves", as part of the YARN Festival at the Mermaid Arts Centre on Thursday 13th November.

The night will feature a history of Bray Rowing Club, the Sea Scouts, and Bray Sailing Club.

The anchorman for the event is Brian White, of Bray Cualann Historical Society. Brian is truly “Mr Bray History”. There is nothing in the history of Bray (maritime or otherwise) that he does not know.

Each club will tell the story of the origins of their Club and how it got to where it is today.

We will also have a Bray Rower tell us the story of his mammoth adventure rowing across the Atlantic.

We will hear from Bray sailors George Farrell and Harry Boland the story of Firestone, their concrete boat, which broke its mooring and sailed all the way to Cardigan Bay in Wales on its own. This was long before driverless cars or robo-taxis. It arrived safely and the Bray lads just had to go to Wales to collect it!

The event is a fundraiser for the Sea Scouts and Bray Rowing Club. It promises to be a great night, so don’t miss out on booking it.
