NEWS FLASH - EGGSHELLS TAKEOVER
This Saturday we are highlighting the local supports available for families affected by addiction. Our volunteer roles will be taken over by 'Eggshells'. Anyone who has grown up with addiction knows that eggshells are what you walk on everyday. It is an unpredictable, anxiety inducing chaotic environment.
Eggshells are Jennifer McIntyre, one of our local parkrunners, and her brother John Conroy. During the summer Jennifer and John climbed Ireland's four highest peaks to raise awareness of support services available for families affected by addiction.
On Saturday they will continue their awareness raising campaign by taking over parkrun for the morning with the support of local support services including Coolmine Therapeutic Community and The RISE Foundation.
Through their own personal experience John and Jennifer know well the stigma and shame that often comes with the addiction of a loved one, along with impact on mental health. Too often family members are not aware of the supports available to help them to cope, heal and recover. A number of local services are supporting parkrun at the campus, with flyers and contact information available on Saturday morning.
Jennifer and John are inviting everyone along on Saturday to, in Jennifer's words; "Join us Eggshells in shaking the shame, get the conversations going while enjoying some fresh air and exercise followed by tea/coffee and cakes."
Please share this post widely. And remember we love to welcome walkers as well as joggers and runners.
