Rás Luimní 2026 – Race Report
A big thank you from Limerick Cycling Club to all the riders who rolled up to Birdhill on Tuesday for this year’s Rás Luimní. We ran two races on the 30 km circuit along the old N7 – a 61 km C3 race and a 91 km combined C1–2 – and were delighted to see that both fields race hard, clean, and without incident, despite murky conditions at some points on the course.
The C3 race featured numerous attacks, but the bunch (and the headwind on the inbound leg) proved to be sticky. It all rumbled down to an arm-wrestle up the finishing ramp, with Stephen Gillman (Kanturk) powering clear of Dean O’Brien (Blarney), Paddy Sweeney (NCW) and Sean Conroy (GCA) Gabrielle Fox (Valencia SAV) took first lady, from Amy Kinsella (Carrick) and Siobhan Ardener (NCW).
The C1-2 race saw a nine-strong group break clear early doors, and this proved to be the decisive move. Paul Kennedy (Burren) has been in terrific form this season, and he deployed his power to forge clear of the break to finish alone, with Daragh McGee (Kanturk) winning the sprint from the break ahead of Daniel Bresnan (GCA). Last year’s C3 winner Marc Blain (Galway Bay) took first unplaced C2 in a four strong splinter from the main bunch.
