Limerick Summer League 2026
It's a Wrap! 🏆🏆

This year's series champs are Paul Kennedy (Burren) and Siobhan Ardener (NCW), worthy winners after 15 rounds of league racing. A series of commanding performances saw Paul wrestle the title back from Brian Cullen (Dan Morrissey) by a margin of only three points, with Patrick Dundas (U/A) in third. Consistent performances saw Siobhan finish clear of Veronika Krolova (GCA). In addition to the top ten overall and the ladies' podium, prizes also go to the top three unplaced C3/LC riders (Dara Ryan, Steve Lyons and Derek Cullen). We will be in contact with all recipients over the next few days.

That's it for another year. In addition to all our club members who gave up their time to marshal, and to Ken, Chris and Mark on the motos, a huge thanks from Limerick Cycling Club to all the riders who raced hard since mid April to make the league a competitive session week-on-week. We really appreciate your support!

Limerick Summer League 2026
Round #15: Last Blast 🚀

The final race of the 2026 series drew a bumper crowd to Birdhill, with enough bodies for two groups in two races over the 60 km course. In race 1, the large group 1 worked well together throughout to keep the scratchies at bay, with Patrick Dundas (U/A) the strongest in the sprint for the line, from Paul Collins (NCW) and Joe Donworth (GCA). Race 2 featured its customary spate of attacks, with the decisive break forming the second time up Kilmastulla. Here, a six-strong group of Cathal Russel (Dan Morrissey), Patrick Ryan (Raparees) and the Limerick CC quartet of Tom Shanahan, Bernard O'Connell, Stephen Shanahan and Jeff Punch worked steadily to build their advantage over the field to the finish line. Stephen Shanahan, on his return to road racing, blitzed the sprint to take victory from Cathal Russell and Bernard O'Connell. Siobhan Ardener (NCW) was first lady.

League Tables: 'Tis Tight at the Top!

Paul Kennedy (Burren) holds a lead of three points over Brian Cullen (Dan Morrissey), in a battle between the series champions of the last two seasons. The league finale is worth double points, so anything can happen - although both riders have racked up points in 11 rounds (and only the best 11 can count). Patrick Dundas (U/A) lies in third, and there is plenty of scope for riders to move up in the table. Siobhan Ardener (NCW) holds a strong lead over Veronika Krolova (GCA) in the ladies contest.

Last roll of the dice for 2026, Folks! Tuesday July 28th - a 60 km double round rolling out from Birdhill at 19:00.

Limerick Summer League 2026
Round #14: Chillin'

After last week's tar-melter, temperatures were back to normal for the penultimate round of this year's series. We ran with a single race, three groups. At the turn, the scratch had overhauled group 2, and a five-strong break had forged clear in pursuit of group 1. On the return leg, Niall Rea (LCC) broke clear of the lead group, which was eventually hunted down by the scratch break approaching the Yellowbridge drag. A decisive selection then formed which forged clear despite a furious chase behind. On the ramp to the finish, Paul Kennedy (Burren) blasted home ahead of Brian Cullen (Dan Morrissey) and Stephen Gillman (Kanturk), with the field stretched out behind. Siobhan Ardener (NCW) was first lady.

Single Race: Top 12 on the night:
1. Paul Kennedy, Burren Cycling Club
2. Brian Cullen, Dan Morrissey Pissei CT
3. Stephen Gillman, Kanturk CC
4. Patrick Dundas, U/A Munster
5. Padraig O'Sullivan, Burren Cycling Club
6. Bernard O'Connell, Limerick CC
7. Michael White, Raparees CC
8. Niall Rea, Limerick CC
9. Jeff Punch, Limerick CC
=9. Pat Ryan, Raparees CC
11. Shane Peplar, U/A Munster
=11. Jimmy Tracey, Raparees CC

This year's league is a 15 round series, with your best 11 results to count. Points for the first 10/8 riders to cross the line in Race 1/2, with a supplementary points table for ladies. Prizes for the first 10, first unplaced junior / underage, three unplaced C3/LC riders, and top five in the ladies table.

Thanks to Tom and John for marshaling and video, and to Ken, Chris and Mark for keeping the race safe.

Next week: a 60 km double round rolling out from Birdhill - last roll of the dice for 2026, Folks! Ya know ya wanna!

Limerick Summer League 2026
Rounds #14 Tuesday, July 21st 😎

Conditions are looking good for this week's penultimate round of this year's league, if not as scorchio as recently.

As ever, we hope to run two races. Last week's groups were a bit more balanced, with a few more opting for race 2 - which saw plenty of attacks throughout.

Limerick Summer League 2026
Round #13: Scorchio! 🥵

Probably the hottest conditions for a league race, over recent years at least (who's complainin'?). A great turnout. In race 1, a large group 1 hit the road with a power-packed scratch group in pursuit. Despite the headwind on the outward leg, the race converged before the turn, with the field splintering as it approached the finish. Paudie O'Sullivan (Burren) took the win ahead of Stephen Gillman (Kanturk) with Tom Lane (Dan Morrissey) third. Race 2 continued with its customary mania for attacks but, despite many salvoes, the bunch tackled the ramp largely intact. Bernard O'Connell continued his streak to take the sprint ahead of Tom Shanahan and Jeff Punch for a Limerick CC 1-2-3, with Siobhan Ardener (NCW) the first lady.

Race 1: Top 10 on the night:
1. Padraig O'Sullivan, Burren Cycling Club
2. Stephen Gillman, Kanturk CC
3. Tom Lane, Dan Morrissey Pissei CT
4. Paul Kennedy, Burren Cycling Club
5. Brian Cullen, Dan Morrissey Pissei CT
6. Daniel Bresnan, Greenmount CA
7. Patrick Dundas, U/A Munster
8. Conor Lynch, Sliabh Luachra
9. Ronan Costelloe, U/A Munster
10. Shane Kelly, Newcastlewest CC

Race 2: Top 8 on the night:
1. Bernard O'Connell, Limerick CC
2. Tom Shanahan, Limerick CC
3. Jeff Punch, Limerick CC
4. Patrick Yon Hin, U/A Munster
5. Alan Benson, U/A Munster
6. Pat Ryan, Raparees CC
7. Declan Fagan, Limerick CC
8. Alan Dunlea, CRNS

Thanks to Steve and John for marshaling and video, and to Ken, Chris and Mark for keeping the race safe.

Next up? A regular 36 km round rolling out from Gooig on Tuesday 21st, to be followed by the 60 km series finale on the 28th. Gerrup!
