However, within a season their "team" had grown to a full club with such a demand for places that a second team was formed in 1977. Under the supervision of the ubiquitous Denis Doherty Rashenny "United" soon earned a reputation for success with perhaps the pinnacle being victory in the 1984 Carndonagh Open Cup. Cup Final performance in 1985 v. In 1986 the Club embarked on a major development programme to provide a football pitch and modem changing facilities for the area. By 1990 after a tremendous four year struggle the pitch was officially opened by Ireland's World Cup hero Paul McGrath. It was a great coup to acquire McGrath's services a month after the World Cup with his visit proving wholly enjoyable. Since then backed by financial assistance from both the F.A.I and the National Lottery, the club has embarked on stage II, the construction of changing rooms. Built entirely in a voluntary capacity by club members and volunteers from the local community, the facility has been completed in less than a year. It certainly stands as a fine example of the power of community co - operation!
