It is with deep sadness that we learned the last few days of the passing of the legend that was Gerry Rushe.

Gerry was a larger than life character and a friend to many at home and abroad. Though he lived in Mountbellew all his life, Gerry was known in every corner of Ireland and further afield. He was well known to us here in St Brendan’s and had many friends in the club. He always wished us luck in games and attended some of our matches over the years. Gerry was ever present at Galway matches (both football and hurling) and whether you met him in Donegal, Kerry or Croke Park, you were always met with a kind or funny word and a warm handshake. He seemed to at all times be in good form. Gerry had that special gift where you always felt better having been in his company. There was only one Gerry Rushe. Ni bheidh a leitheid ann aris.

We offer our condolences to his wife Carmel, brothers Seamus, Frank, PJ and sister Marion, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, neighbours and large circle of friends. Ar dheis lamh De go raibh a anam uasal. St Brendan’s GAA Club.
