Never put off til tomorrow what you can get done today, that's how the saying goes. But this saying becomes more applicable as we get older and realize that we can't turn back the clock. But the good news is that we can definitely improve our quality of life as we age : muscle strength and joint flexibility are essential to living life to the fullest, pain free and unhindered by regular avoidable injuries.
So despite a rocky start this week due to the weather, I can't wait to get back into classes with you all next week for another fabulous year of Pilates 💪💪💪 x

How are the summer hols going guys? Have ye all been hopping, skipping, jumping, hiking, gyming, swimming and walking to keep active/moving??
If not, I have 2 NEW very short (less than 10 minutes!) videos made for you all:

1. Core Strengthening
2. Full Body Stretching which I will WhatsApp to all my clients tomorrow. What a thoughtful gift for the weekend I hear you say 😜

In the meantime, here is a great article about the importance of proprioception (which I've discussed in our classes) and how you can use regular movement especially Pilates to keep our proprioception senses strong especially as we age... Strong proprioception awareness helps to reduce falls and injuries so losing this sense as we age can have a huge impact on our lives.
Enjoy the article and WhatsApp me to let me know how you're getting on with the videos!

It is our physical sense of where we are in space and is essential to our quality of life as we age. Here are simple, everyday ways to test and train it

We're on a Break! Yes it's mid-term so we have no classes this week. But this article caught my eye..the headline is of course is a bit misleading but the rest of the content is very interesting and very applicable to all of our lives... Maybe read this instead of attending your class this week, and for the record, my favourite bits are:
1. Our bodies naturally try to use as few muscles as possible in our daily lives, whereas really we should make our bodies work ALL of our muscles EVERY DAY (i.e. we prefer bending down to pick something up without using the hips and knees and corresponding muscles to assist. We'd rather pick something up by tipping forward, raising one leg up behind us to save that leg from doing an ounce of work and then lean forward on the other straightened leg for fear of having to actually squat down (bending knees and hips) on both legs where we'd actually use LOADS of muscles. You know exactly what I'm referring to 😜
2. Running is GOOD for building strong joints and muscles..not "bad" as was claimed in the past... Putting weight on our joints to maintain bone density/strength and also building heart and lung fitness is great for our health PROVIDED we also do post running stretches for the muscles plus strengthening exercises (squats, lunges) to build the muscles around the joints to KEEP them strong. It is the lack of running/ fast walking or exercising that causes weakness and ultimate injuries in the body...
3. Wearing proper supportive RUNNERS/TRAINERS as often as possible in our day is really important for our feet, ankles, knees and hips and encourages good posture and more movement because when we're comfortable, we'll move better and more often.

Nothing new and amazing here but definitely worth putting some of the advice into action where possible...
See you next week from Monday 19th 💪😊

Happy Halloween break guys 🎃 Started mine with a gorgeous run out to Ring this morning and am planning plenty hikes with the kids (any walk with boots or welly's qualifies as a hike!). Term 2 continues with week 2 when we return from Monday November 6th. Keep moving every day, whether it's hopping, skipping or jumping and then take 5 minutes every evening to stretch! And I'll see you all very soon 😘
