Here’s what’s been happening around the club, and what’s coming up!

𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆: The early morning rain didn't dampen the spirits of the large field of ladies who played for Martina Ward's Lady Captain's Prize on Saturday last. The golf course was in great condition despite the week's rain, but the wet rough caught out a number of players and proved a difficult test.

At the end of the day, when the scores were counted, only two players were under par, with Angela McCann taking the main prize ahead of Julie Lombard in second place. A large crowd attended the fabulous dinner and presentation, followed by a lively night's entertainment.

Thanks to Martina for a well-organised day that was enjoyed by a large gathering of golfers and their families. Congratulations to all of the prizewinners as follows:

𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀: Last week was team competition day, with Fiona Weisz, Eileen Ward, Peter Flynn and Phil Murphy taking first place. Second were Tom Hatton, Padraig Guilfoyle, Michael Joyce and John Ryan, while third place went to Paddy Leddy, Mary Ryan Leddy, Noreen Lynam and Christy Barker.

𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀: The Australian Spoons Greensomes competition is ongoing until 20th June. The June 9-Hole Running Competition is also ongoing until the end of June, with one card to count. There is no 18-hole competition next week because of the Golf Classic.

𝗠𝗲𝗻: Last week's competition, sponsored by Donohoe's SuperValu, was won again by Maurice Cullen with an excellent net 63, shooting level par for his handicap. Paddy Donegan won Division 2 with a net 70, while Adrian Redican won Division 3 with a net 67. There is no 18-hole competition next week due to the Club Classic.

𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀: The juniors' competition continues every Sunday evening at 6.00pm.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯: Congratulations to our Mixed Fourball team, who defeated Carrick on Thursday last in difficult conditions with a 3.5 to 0.5 victory. Captained by Brid Sullivan, well done to Dean Craven, Padraig Mulligan, David Bourke, Sean Masterson, Patricia Bohan, Angela McCann, Julie Lombard and Odette Lynch.

The club will play Strandhill in the next round in the coming weeks, with the date yet to be finalised.

𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Best of luck to Martina Ward as she hosts her Lady Captain's Day on Saturday, 6th June. This is the first major day of the year for the club, and all members wish her well on her special day. The draw for the main competition for Martina's prize will take place later this week. A beginners' 9-hole competition will be played during the week, and a men's 9-hole competition will take place at 6pm on Saturday evening. All members are welcome to the clubhouse after play for the presentation, music and craic.

𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀

There was a large turnout for the outing to the Slieve Russell last Tuesday, with Pat Prior and Mary Ryan Leddy winning the men's and ladies' competitions. Second and third places went to Michael Joyce, Henry Faughnan, Eileen Ward and Fiona Weisz.

𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀' 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

Well done to Sinead Conefrey, who won the Cribbin Cup 18-hole Stroke Competition last week with a net 69, the only player to finish under par. In second place was Lady Captain Martina Ward (70), with Angela McCann (72) in third place. This week's Australian Spoons competition is ongoing.

𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

There was a large entry in last week's 18-Hole Stableford Competition (QC4), sponsored by O'Rourke's Office Supplies. Division 1 was won by Maurice Cullen (39 pts), Division 2 by Dessie Doyle (37 pts), and Division 3 by Kevin Doonan (40 pts).

The 9-hole Stroke Re-entry Competition, sponsored by McDevitt's Pharmacy, was won by Paddy Leddy (net 33).

This week's competition, sponsored by Donohoe's SuperValu, was won once again by Maurice Cullen with an excellent net 63, shooting level par for his handicap. Paddy Donegan won Division 2 with a net 70, while Adrian Redican won Division 3 with a net 67.

Here’s what’s been happening around the club, and what’s coming up!

𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Congratulations to last week's winners as follows: Men: 1st Sean Plunkett, 2nd Michael Joyce, 3rd Joe Reynolds. Ladies: 1st Mary Quinn, 2nd Angela Barden, 3rd Brid Sullivan. Next week's competition will be a team scramble. Hard luck to our Seniors team, who lost to Enniscrone in the third round of the Fred Perry Trophy competition last Thursday. Thanks to all the players who participated.

𝗠𝗲𝗻: Congratulations to Dillon Birne, who won the Lock10, Kilclare 18-hole Stableford competition (QC3) with an impressive 39pts, playing off +2. In second place was Peter McNiff (39pts), with Chris Shortt in third place on 35pts. Well done also to Vincent McMorrow, who won the 9-hole stroke re-entry competition sponsored by McNiffe's Bakery. Next weekend, Donohoe's SuperValu will sponsor the 18-hole Stableford competition (QC5).

𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀: Well done to Ann McTague, who won last week's Toolan Cup with 35pts. There were four players on 34pts, with Maureen Heslin taking second place and Evelyn Cafferty in third place. Starting next Sunday, 31st May, the Australian Spoons Greensomes competition will run until 20th June. On Saturday, 6th June, Martina Ward will host her Lady Captain's Day, the next big event for the ladies.

𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀: Last week, we had the monthly team scramble. The winners were Ann Foley, Eileen Ward, Michael Joyce and Peter Flynn. In second place were Brid Sullivan, Mary Banks Smith, Brian McCann and Ollie Moran, while Evelyn Smith, Kathleen Fox, Francis Barden and Joe Feely took third place.

Our sympathy is extended to Michael Joyce on the passing of his brother, Padraig, from Connemara last week, and to Brendan Corrigan on the passing of his sister, Maura, from Ballinamuck, two weeks ago.

𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Congratulations to last week's divisional winners of the second Order of Merit competition, an 18-hole Stableford competition sponsored by Smyths Siopa Ól: Maurice Cullen, Div 1 (36pts), John Mannion, Div 2 (34pts), and Adrian Redican, Div 3 (40pts). Jimmy Pita won the 9-hole stroke running competition with a nett 36. The prizes will be presented along with all of the May winners after the first Friday evening scramble in June. 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Seven players finished under par in the first GOY and S&B competition of the year, sponsored by Michael Scollan Meats. Patricia Kiernan took the McCarthy Trophy with a nett 66. In second place was Breda Travers (67 nett), with Patricia Bohan in third place, also with 67 nett. This week, we have an 18-hole Stableford competition and next week, on Sunday 17th and Thursday 21st May, the Toolan Cup 18-hole Stableford GOY will take place, sponsored by Lock 10, Kilclare. Results of the April 9-hole running competition were as follows: 1st Mary Quinn, 2nd Martina Ward, 3rd Patricia Bohan. The Vision Ireland foursomes were completed last week, with Angela McCann and Odette Lynch finishing in first place with an impressive 38pts. They will represent the club at the qualifier later in the summer.
