On Saturday, 26th September, Taughmaconnell community is coming together to hold a 5KM Walk/Run in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

At the heart of this fundraiser is someone very special to our community — Val Keogh.

Val has spent his life quietly giving his time, energy and support to others. A lifelong sportsman and dedicated member of the community, his contribution has been immense.

From his early teenage years playing with Skyvalley Rovers, to his involvement as a coach and referee, Val has always been willing to give his time to help others. His love of sport, his community spirit and his willingness to lend a hand have touched so many people over the years.

Val has also always had a deep love for the outdoors and the environment, planting hundreds of trees and dedicating much of his time to causes close to his heart. He has travelled abroad on several occasions to help build orphanages in Russia, Belarus and Ethiopia.

Late last year, Val was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. The illness has already taken away his ability to play the sports he loves, but it has not changed the person he is or his desire to help others.

Val has volunteered to take part in a drug trial, knowing that while it may not change the outcome for him, it could provide vital answers and hope for others living with MND in the future.

Now, the community that Val has given so much to wants to give something back.

We are asking you to help us support Val and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

If you can donate, please do. No amount is too small. Every €5, €10 or €20 donation will help us raise much-needed funds for an organisation that is there to support Val, his family and others living with MND.

Please donate today and, just as importantly, share this post. One share could help us reach someone who is able to make a difference.

Every donation. Every share. Every step makes a difference.

I had the pleasure of calling over to Pink Zone Fitness, owned by Monika a club member to present her with the trophy she won as part of the winning team in Roscommon a while back.

Monika was also part of the winning Peugeot Race Team.

I was kindly showed around her ladies-only gym and her fitness facilities.

It has everything under one roof, and ladies, you can even enjoy a little pampering too, as her beauty salon is there as well all under the one roof.

Monika has a fantastic special offer on at the minute, and I was genuinely impressed with the facilities. I would highly recommend paying her a visit.

She has all the equipment needed for anyone training for a HYROX, as well as for general fitness.

Ladies definitely be worth giving her a call…
