After a false start last weekend our U/13s finally kicked off their Midlandschoolboysgirls League season today at home to Frankford in McCarthy Park.

In an excellent squad performance, goals from Nikita and an unfortunate own goal gave the Hoops all three points and a great start to the season.

This group have added plenty of new faces over the summer months, which has strengthened the squad and will make them very competitive as the season goes on.

Best today were Noah, Thomas & Kevin O’Reilly, with Alvaro a brilliant Man of the Match on his debut. Well done lads 👏

🩷⚪️GIRLS FOOTBALL AT ST PETER’S FC🩷⚪️

Next Wednesday will mark the beginning of a new era in our football club as we officially launch a dedicated Girls only Section!!

Following on from the success of our rejuvenated boys section, we are delighted to now provide the same opportunity for girls to get involved, make friends and enjoy football in a fun and welcoming club. Our Girls Only Training will be aimed at girls born in 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021.

This is just the beginning of what we hope will be an exciting new chapter for girls football at St Peter’s FC.

A super start to the 2026/27 season for Dermie Lennon’s men as they put four past Mountmellick United this morning to lay down an early marker.

Clive Harris opened the scoring after half an hour before Dylan Gavin doubled our advantage just before the break.

Cameron Keighery then produced a worldie of a goal to make it 3-0, before Dylan Gavin rounded off an impressive performance with a bullet of a free kick finish to complete the scoring.

A convincing opening day display from the lads and a great way to get the new campaign underway.🟢⚪️

Our U11 Green team started the new Midlandschoolboysgirls League season in the same vein as they finished last year with a fantastic win away to Banagher.

There was a great spread of goals throughout the team, with plenty of players getting on the scoresheet. Goal of the Day has to go to Filipe, who showed his Brazilian flair with a brilliant bicycle kick! 🇧🇷⚽️

A brilliant start to the new season from the lads, well done boys! 🟢⚪️

Our clothes banks are a 50/50 venture with the AFRC, a fantastic organisation to be involved with.

The AFRC do so much good work in our town, supporting people and families and making a real difference in the community.

If you have any unwanted clothes why not drop them down to our pitches @ N37 YW44.

We want to say a huge thank you to .Peters Football Club, who kindly support the work within Athlone FRC through their Clothing Recycling Banks at McCarthy Park.

Money received this year has supported the facilitation of a range of mental health and wellbeing workshops within the service from January to June.

If you are a member of the general public and you would like to donate unwanted clothing, please consider dropping your items to the clothing banks at McCarthy Park at the Spring Well Road.

⚽️🏆 Tommy Carberry & Trevor McCormack Cups - 2026 🏆⚽️

All that is good about kids football was on show yesterday as 20 U/9 teams from around the Midlands contested the Carberry & McCormack Cups in a really enjoyable day, despite a few downpours 🌧️

The Carberry Cup will spend the next 12 months in McCarthy Park as St Peter’s 1 & St Peter’s 2 agreed to share the cup & bragging rights after both teams had won all their games en route to the final. A good decision by the coaches of both teams. 👏

The McCormack Cup was taken out the N61 by Hodson Bay Celtic after a pulsating final with St Joseph’s FC that had the large crowd glued to every action right until the golden goal winner in extra time. Ecstasy and devastation!!

Once again, we would like to thank both the Carberry & McCormack families for allowing us to host the blitz in honour of two former players, Tommy & Trevor. The underage format seems to be working a treat.

A final thanks to all our club volunteers for their work over the weekend, getting the place ready and ensuring the blitz ran smoothly throughout.

McCarthy Park is all set for tomorrow’s Tommy Carberry & Trevor McCormack Memorial Cups, where we’ll welcome 20 Under 9 teams from across the Midlands.

A huge thanks to both the Carberry & McCormack families for allowing us to continue this fantastic tradition in remembering two of our former players who left us far too soon.

The blitz has proved hugely popular since changing from an adult to a kids competition in 2024 and we’re looking forward to another great day at McCarthy Park tomorrow.

For anyone with a spare hour or two the action kicks off at 11am with the two finals pencilled in for around 12.45. 🟢⚪️
