As many of you will know the club had some very sad news at the end of 2023. On the 12th of November Philip Kerr, our club founder, passed away after a short illness. We did not publicise his passing on the club discord or social media pages as we wanted to respect the families private space and give them space to grieve, Phil was a very private person and we did not feel it was appropriate to be making public statements about his passing at the time.
Without Phil we would not have a club or trails in the Hush, he built the first trails many years ago, back when the hill really did live up to its name as “The Hush”. The calibre of what he built meant it did not stay secret for very long. He was also the person responsible for building a relationship with Coillte, this
relationship is the reason we have permitted trails on the hill, and this is solely down to Phil and the friendship he had built with the forestry manager and all Coillte representative he interacted with. Phil set up the club initially, consisting of a small group of friends, many of whom are still in the club and in fact still on the committee. This group paved the way for us to grow into the amazing club we have today, a club filled with individuals who share the same passion for the Hush as Phil. He should be very proud of what he has done for us all, leaving behind a club which simply wouldn’t have existed without his efforts, and being instrumental in creating one of the best mountain biking locations in Ireland!
Rest In Piece Phil, your memory will live on through everyone who has the pleasure of riding a bike in The Hush!
The club are organising a memorial spin on the 9th of March. Please join us on the day to pay our respects to the man who has created an amazing playground for us mountainbikers!
We will meet in the top car park at 10 am on the 9th, for a social spin riding some of the trails that Phil created for us all to enjoy! This spin is open to non-members and all skills levels.
