St Mary’s GFC Weekly Notes
Senior Football
Congratulations to our Division 5 team on their win over Mullinalaghta St Columba’s in the Division 5 final on Saturday evening in the Laurels. A tough battle of the sides, St Mary’s went into the break with a 2-point lead with a score of 0:08 – 1:03. It was a goal from Ben Martin deep into the second half that pushed St Mary’s to a 5-point lead. St Columba’s fought to the final whistle but St Mary’s proved too strong and ran out deserving winners with a final score of 1:14 – 1:12.
Well done also to the management of Derek Gorman, Fergus Kelly and James Hynes.
Our Division 3 team were due to play Longford Slashers on Wednesday 24th but this match has been conceded by Longford Slashers.
We now progress to the Division 3 League semi-final. Opponent, date, time and venue to be confirmed.

Minor Club
Congratulations to our Under 14’s who played Longford Slashers in the Division 1 Shield Final in Higginstown on Wednesday evening last. A very close contest between the sides with Granard one point behind at half time. However, this young team dug deep and contested every ball to push on and keep a lead throughout the second half and the match ended with a final score of 6:10 – 4:07.
Thank you and congratulations also to the managers Brian O’Hara, Eamonn Scanlon and Fergal Kiernan who put a lot of hard work and dedication into the team.
The Under 14 Championship starts on Tuesday 23rd June with an away game to Shannon Gaels in Lanesborough at 7.30pm. Best of luck!
The Under 16 Championship begins on Thursday 2nd July with a home game versus St Dominic’s at 7.30pm.
The Division 1 Minor league starts with Round 2 on Monday 29th June versus St Francis in Higginstown at 7.30pm, following a BYE in Round 1.
Under 8 and Under 10 blitzes are now back – details are shared with parents/guardians.

Mixed underage training has now returned on Sunday mornings in Higginstown at 10am – 11am for Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 players. New members always welcome.
St Mary’s Ladies
Best of luck to our Under 12 girls who play Mostrim on Monday 22nd in C&D Park at 7pm.
The Under 14 & Under 16 Championship fixtures have been advised.
The Under 14 girls have a BYE in Round 1.
The Under 16 girls play Carrickedmond in Round 1 in Higginstown on the 14th July at 7pm.
Under 8 & Under 10 blitz details have been shared with parents with Under 10 details to follow.

Our younger groups have now moved their training to the pitch in Higginstown.
Training for all girls from Under 4 to Under 12 will take place from 6-7pm on Wednesday evenings.
There is still time to register for the year ahead and we look forward to welcoming old and new players.
St Mary’s LGFA will be holding a Church gate collection at St Mary’s Church, Granard on 27th and 28th June.
50/50 Draw
This week’s 50/50 draw took place in John V Donohoe’s Bar on Sunday, 21st June. Congratulations to Anton Clarke who was the lucky winner of the €1245 jackpot.
Make sure to get your tickets in now for the next draw. Draws take place on Sunday evenings. The winnings are based on the entries, the more entries, the bigger the jackpot!!
